com alegria que damos boas-vindas a voc e a todos os estudantes inter-

nacionais que escolheram estudar na UFMG e viver em Belo Horizonte. De

Welcome

Dear student,

We are pleased to welcome you and all international students who have chosen
to study at UFMG and live in Belo Horizonte. From now on, UFMG is your home!

This is the chance for us to have a more international and multicultural Campus.
Talents from all over the world join Brazilian students in global citizenship pro-
jects and are engaged in building a more just and democratic society, at local
and global levels.

At UFMG, you will find various opportunities to take part in academic events,
research and projects, as well as the chance to promote your culture and get
to know our lifestyle. People from Minas Gerais, the mineiros, are known to be
warm and welcoming, and Belo Horizonte is famous for its cuisine, hospitality
and cultural life.

In addition to providing integrational and cultural activities, the International

Relations Office is responsible for your admission and you can refer to us whene-
ver needed.

Presentation UFMG, your place: culture, learning, research and extension at the university
Studying at a foreign country can be a great experience. In this presentation, we will discuss how to better
benefit from your time spent in Brazil, learning about culture, diversity and history, among other important
matters.

Apresentao Mltiplos olhares sobre Belo Horizionte

Nessa apresentao, voc vai conhecer um pouco mais da histria de nossa cidade, da cultura e da
gastronomia. E ainda poder conhecer a diversidade de coletivos juvenis negros da capital, e refletir
sobre as dinmicas de desigualdade e resistncia vivenciadas por esses grupos, por meio da apresen-
tao do Mapa dos Movimentos de Resistncia da Juventude Negra em Belo Horizonte.

In this presentation, you will get to know a bit more about our citys history, culture and cuisine. And also,
you will meet the diversity of young black unions, and ponder about the dynamics of inequality and resis-
tance experienced by these groups, supported by an introduction of the Map of the Resistance Movement
of the Black Youth in Belo Horizonte.

Cultural shock is a natural process we can experience smoothly once we are prepared for it. Lets talk about
this process and how UFMG can support students through it.

Durante nosso tour, voc vai conhecer vrios pontos tursticos de BH, tais como a Praa da Liberdade,

Guided Tour BH City Tour

In this tour you will see several touristic spots in Belo Horizonte such as the Liberty Square, the Central Ma-
rket and the Popes Square. Not only you will learn how to get about in BH, but also you will get to know

poder conhecer a Lagoa da Pampulha, um dos pontos tursticos mais famosos de Belo Horizonte.

Did you know that our campus is 3.340.000 m large? Do you want to know where you can practice sports
and spend your free time with other students? During our Campus Tour, you will learn where the academic

Prof. Fabio Alves

Professor Titular de Estudos Lingusticos da Universidade Federal de
Minas Gerais (UFMG), possui doutorado em Sprachlehrforschung - Lin-
gstica Aplicada - pela Ruhr Universitt Bochum (1995) na Alemanha.
O professor foi diretor do Programa de Ps-Graduao em Estudos Lin-
gusticos (PosLin) (2000-2002; 2005-2007) e presidente da Associao
Nacional de Ps-Graduao e Pesquisa em Letras e Lingstica (ANPOLL)
no binio 2008-2010. Desde maro de 2014, Dr. Fabio Alves Diretor de
Relaes Internacionais da UFMG.

Fabio Alves is Full Professor of Translation Studies at Universidade Federal

de Minas Gerais (UFMG) and holds a magna-cum-laude PhD (1995) from
Ruhr-Universitt Bochum, Germany. Professor Alves was Director of the
UFMG Graduate Programme in Linguistics and Applied Linguistics (2000-
2002; 2005-2007) and President of ANPOLL, the Brazilian Association of
Graduate Studies and Research in Literary Studies and Linguistics, (2008-
2010). Since March 2014, Dr. Alves is UFMG Dean of International Affairs.

Profa. Mriam Jorge

Mriam Jorge possui mestrado e doutorado em Estudos Lingusticos.
Atualmente, Mriam Diretora Adjunta de Relaes Internacionais da
UFMG. Professora Adjunta da Licenciatura em Ingls da Faculdade de
Educao da UFMG e docente do Programa de Ps-Graduao em Es-
tudos Lingusticos (PosLin). Seus interesses de pesquisa envolvem, en-
tre outros temas, a internacionalizao e o multiculturalismo, culturas e
lnguas e relaes raciais no Brasil. Dra. Mriam Jorge trabalhou para o
Ministrio da Educao e Cultura do Brasil na primeira edio do Progra-
ma Nacional do Livro Didtico (PNLD). Nos Estados Unidos, foi professo-
ra visitante na UCSB e UNCC onde ministrou cursos de relaes raciais,
identidades raciais e Dispora Africana no Brasil.

Miriam Jorge holds a PhD and an MA in Applied Linguistics. Currently, Mi-

riam is the Associate Dean for International Affairs at Universidade Fede-
ral de Minas Gerais (UFMG). She is an Associate Professor at the School of
Education and faculty in the Graduate Program in Applied Linguistics at
the School of Letters at UFMG. Her research interests, among others, inclu-
de internationalization and multiculturalism, cultures and languages, and
race relations in Brazil. Dr. Jorge has worked for the Brazilian Ministry of
Education in the first edition of the Brazilian National Program of School
Textbooks (PNLD). In the United States, Miriam has been a visiting scholar
at UCSB and UNCC, where she taught courses on race relations, racial iden-
tities and the African Diaspora in Brazil.

Profa. Delba Teixeira Rodrigues Barros

Prof. Associada do Departamento de Psicologia da UFMG, Doutora
em Psicologia Clnica com atuao em Orientao Profissional e de
Carreira, desenvolve e coordena projetos relacionados escolha pro-
fissional de adolescentes e adultos, preparao de universitrios para
intercmbios internacionais e preparao para aposentadoria. Orien-
ta estgios de formao dos alunos de graduao em psicologia.

Associate Professor at the Department of Psychology at UFMG, she

holds a PhD on Clinical Psychology focusing on Vocational Guidance,
she develops and coordinates projects related to professional choice
among adolescents and adults, preparation of college students to in-
ternational exchange programs, and preparation for retirement. She
also advises on internships of undergraduate Psychology students.

Profa. Denise Pedron

Diretora Adjunta de Ao Cultural, Professora do Teatro Universitrio (TU),
desde 2011, onde leciona as disciplinas de Histria do Teatro. vice-co-
ordenadora do Centro de Produo e Documentao do Teatro Universi-
trio, o CPD/TU. Foi coordenadora do Festival de Vero da UFMG (2015-
2016), vice-diretora do Teatro Universitrio (Gesto 2012-2014). Possui
graduao em Letras (1995), mestrado em Estudos Literrios (1999) e
doutorado em Literatura Comparada pela Universidade Federal de Minas
Gerais (2006), com a tese A performatividade na cultura contempornea.

Associate Director of Cultural Action, Professor at the Teatro Universitrio (TU)

since 2011, where she teaches subjects related to the History of Theatre. She is
the vice-coordinator of Teatro Universitrio Production and Documentation
Center (CPD/TU). She was coordinator of UFMG Summer Festival (2015-2016),
vice-director of Teatro Universitrio (2012-2014 term). She is has an undergra-
duate degree in Literature (1995), holds a Masters in Literary Studies (1999)
and a PhD in Compared Literature from Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais
(2006), her dissertation was entitled Performativity in Contemporary Culture.

Prof. Leandro Rodrigues Alves Diniz

Doutor em Lingustica pela Universidade Estadual de Campinas, pro-
fessor adjunto na Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG) onde
atua, particularmente, na rea de Portugus como Lngua Adicional.
membro do corpo docente do Programa de Mestrado Profissional em
Letras (ProfLetras) e do Programa de Ps-Graduao em Estudos Lin-
gusticos (Poslin) nessa mesma universidade.

He holds a PhD in Linguistics from Universidade Estadual de Campinas and

is an Associate Professor at Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais where he
works, mainly, in the field of Portuguese as an Additional Language. He is
a faculty in the Professional Masters Programme, and in the Graduate Pro-
gram in Linguistics (Poslin) at the School of Letters at UFMG.

Profa. Mrcia Lousada

Professora Assistente do curso de Turismo da UFMG. Mestre em
Geografia pela mesma universidade, onde tambm se especiali-
zou em Planejamento do Turismo e Desenvolvimento Sustentvel.
Bacharel em Turismo pelo Unicentro Newton Paiva (2001). Sua pes-
quisa foca em turismo e incluso, turismo e desenvolvimento ter-
ritorial, turismo, gastronomia e culinria, e turismo e educao.

SheisanAssistantProfessoroftheTourismCourseatUFMG.SheholdsaMasters
degree in Geography from the same university (2007), there Ms. Lousada also
specialized in Tourism Planning and Sustainable Development (2003). She
holds a Bachelors degree in Tourism from Unicentro Newton Paiva (2001).
Her research focuses on tourism and inclusion, tourism and territorial de-
velopment, tourism, gastronomy and culinary, and tourism and education.

Amanda Ribeiro
Estudante do 10 perodo de Psicologia na UFMG. Desde seu ingresso
na faculdade, busca desenvolver seus interesses em orientao profis-
sional/de carreira e na rea clnica. J participou de diversas atividades
da Universidade - pesquisa, projetos de extenso e eventos acadmicos
- e tambm fora dela. Morou por trs anos nos Estados Unidos durante
o ensino fundamental e fez intercmbio acadmico de seis meses na
Frana durante sua graduao.

Undergraduate student at UFMG, majoring in Psychology. Since her ear-

ly years at the university, she has aimed at developing her main interests
which are vocational guidance and the clinical area. She has taken part in
various activities at the university research, extension projects and acade-
mic events and also at other institutions. She has lived in the USA for three
years when she was in Elementary School and was part of an academic ex-
change program in France, where she has lived for six months during her
undergraduate years.

Graduanda em Cincias Sociais na UFMG e integrante do Ncleo de Ensino,
Pesquisa e Extenso Conexes de Saberes UFMG. Neste, comps a equi-
pe do Programa de Educao Tutorial (PET) - Conexes, desenvolvendo o
Mapa Digital dos Movimentos de Resistncia da Juventude Negra de Belo
Horizonte, e do Projeto Memrias em Conexo.

Undergraduate student at UFMG, majoring in Social Studies and integrates the

UFMG Center of Teaching, Research, Extension and Connection of Knowledge.
There, she was part of the team of the Tutorial Education Programme (PET)
Connections, developing the Digital Map of the Resistance Movement of the

Possui graduao e mestrado em Psicologia Social pela Universidade Fe-
deral de Minas Gerais (UFMG). Atualmente doutorando em Psicologia
Social pelo Programa da Ps-Graduao em Psicologia da UFMG e integra

He is graduated in Psychology and holds a masters degree from Universidade

Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG). He is currently working on his PhD at the Gra-
duation Programme in Psychology of UFMG and integrates the UFMG Center
of Teaching, Research, Extension and Connection of Knowledge.

Tayane Lino
Possui graduao e mestrado em Psicologia pela Universidade Federal
de Minas Gerais (UFMG). Atualmente doutoranda do Programa da Ps-
-Graduao em Psicologia da UFMG e integra o Ncleo de Ensino, Pesqui-
sa e Extenso Conexes de Saberes UFMG.

She is graduated in Psychology and holds a masters degree from Universi-

dade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG). She is currently working on her PhD at
the Graduation Programme in Psychology of UFMG and integrates the UFMG
Center of Teaching, Research, Extension and Connection of Knowledge.
