O Halloween era um festival do calendário celta (Irlanda), o festival de

FOLCLORE (Folk-lore)

A palavra folclore vem do inglês folk lore: folk quer dizer povo e lore, estudo,
conhecimento. Portanto, folclore é o estudo dos costumes e tradições de um povo.
Esse termo foi criado pelo arqueólogo inglês William John Thoms (1803 – 1885),
pesquisador da cultura popular européia. Em 22 de agosto de 1846, ele publicou um
artigo com o título “Folk-lore”, na revista “The Athenaeum”, propondo a criação do
termo. O termo folclore indica costumes, cerimônias, crenças, romances, arte popular,
artesanato e superstições dos tempos antigos. Com isso, o dia 22 de agosto tornou-se
data de referência do surgimento do termo folclore.

Um menino negro foi pastorear os cavalos. No


final do tarde, quando o menino voltou, o
fazendeiro disse que faltava um cavalo baio.
Pegou o chicote e deu uma surra no menino que
ele ficou sangrando. O garoto achou baio, porém
não conseguiu capturá-lo. Então, o fazendeiro o
prendeu em um formigueiro. No dia seguinte, o
fazendeiro se deparou com o menino sem
nenhum ferimento e com o cavalo. Após o
fazendeiro ter pedido perdão, o menino nada
respondeu, montou em baio e saiu a galope.

Velha feia na forma de jacaré que rouba as


crianças desobedientes. A origem desta lenda
está num dragão, a coca das lendas
portuguesas, tradição que foi levada para o
Brasil na época da colonização.

Com uma perna só e cachimbo sempre na boca,


ele vive nas matas e no sertão. Em algumas
estórias, é apresentado como filho do Curupira e
da Caipora.

É um índio pequeno e ágil, cujos calcanhares


são voltados para frente para despistar os
caçadores. Tem dentes verdes e cabelo
vermelho. É considerado senhor da caça e dono
das matas.

A lenda diz que a mulher que tivesse relações


amorosas com um padre se tornaria uma mula-
sem-cabeça. Possuía a forma de uma mula
marrom ou preta, sem a cabeça, soltando fogo.
Além disso, tinha cascos de aço ou prata e um
relincho que poderia ser ouvido a muitos metros
de distância.

Com uma perna só e cachimbo sempre na boca, o saci


vive nas matas e no sertão. Em algumas estórias, o
saci é apresentado como filho do Curupira e da
