TRABALHO
diferencial e R e Rn.

Later complements of differential and integral calculus and R and Rn. will be studied. At the end of
this CU students should acquire the following skills:
• Master the concept of determinant, calculating it using multiple processes
• Calculate the inverse of a matrix by elementary operations and the adjoint matrix
• Classify and solve systems of linear equations by the method of explicitation and Cramer rule
• Apply the concepts of eigenvector and eigenvalue
• Diagonalize a matrix
• Primitivate rational functions
• Primitivate resourcing to substitution
• Calculate multiple integrals and partial derivatives
• Identify and solve improper integrals

DETERMINANTS
Determinants: definition, calculation and properties.
Adjoint matrix and matrix inversion.
Cramer rule.
Application of the determinants in the classification and solving of systems of linear equations.

After a brief and general review on arrays, it follows the concept of inverse matrix, applied to the
explicit method for solving a system of linear equations.
Then the determinant of a matrix is presented and calculated with the rule of Chio or Laplace's
theorem. It follows the definition of the adjoint matrix, to invert matrices, reusing method of explanation.
Then, the rules of classification of systems of linear equations (SLE) are redefined using the theory of
determinants. The SLE are solved by Cramer's rule.
The product of a matrix by a vector is illustrated geometrically as a linear transformation. The
characteristic matrix and the secular equation are used to analytically obtain the eigenvalues and the
eigenvectors and the diagonalization of the matrix given.
Finally, some complements of differential and integral calculus in R and Rn are presented, topics
that will be used at subsequent curricular units, and that allow reviewing that theory. These contents
include the notion of improper integral, multiple integrals and partial derivatives, as well as primitive
methods for rational functions and the method of substitution.
The classes are expositive, presenting the fundamental concepts and the demonstration of the main
results, and pratical (resolution of exercises). Students should acquire an overview of topics covered,
and its interconnections, and the ability to solve the formulated problems.
Continuous assessment:
The final grade is the average of two frequencies (50% the first and 40% the second) or a global
assessment test (90%). Students must also perform a practical work (10%). There is no minimum
score for any component of the evaluation.
Assessment by examination:
Realization of a single written test at the time of exams at the end of the semester In some cases it
will be required an oral test whose score shall be taken into account in the final grade
The expository and practical methodology associated with classes, where the strategy and problem
solving, encourages the logical and abstract reasoning and allows achieving the objectives of this
curriculum unit, developing all defined key skills.
