Kuang-ch'i (ff 944), célebre converso do Padre Ricoi,

ros e outros tantos auxiliares, a qual, segundo alguns, dispunha
também de IG peças de campanha. Nesta altura talvez seja
melhor deixarmos o traductor inglês do Padre Álvaro Semedo
«Foure hundred men were put in order, that is 200
souldiers, of which many were Portughesses, some where-
of were borne in Portugall, and some there (i. e. in Ma-
cau): but the most of them were people of that Countrie,
who alihough they were Chinesses, borne in Macau, yet
bred up among the Portughesses after their manner, and
were good souldiers, and shot well in Guns. To each
Souldier was given a youth to serve him, who was bou-
ght mith the Kings's money, and so large pay for that
with it the Souldiers clothed themselves richly, and provi-
ded themselves with arms, and were after very rich too.
« These Souldiers set out from Macao with two Cap-
taines, one whereof was named Pedro Cordeiro, the other
Antonio Rodriguez del Campo, with their Alferes and
other Officers. (1) When they were come to Cantone,
