A Fundação para Segurança do Paciente em Anestesia
(APSF) e o Conselho Europeu de Anestesiologia (EBA)
recomendam o uso de formulações padronizadas,
pré-misturadas, prontas para o uso para reduzir os
riscos de erros de diluição e infecções e reconhecem
que a inclusão de seringas pré-preenchidas (PFS) para
administração de medicamentos em anestesiologia tem
o potencial de melhorar a segurança da medicação.13,14

Como agente quelante de íons antimicrobianos, o
etilenodiaminotetracetato dissódico (EDTA) causa a
perda de controle da pressão osmótica nas células
microbianas, resultando na ruptura da membrana celular.
Ensaios clínicos demonstraram a eficácia antimicrobiana
e segurança em seres humanos reduzindo efetivamente
a taxa de infecção pós-operatória.9,14,15,16,18,19
