THE SIXTIETH

RESUMO: O presente trabalho busca explorar um pouco do trabalho alegórico desenvolvido por
Vieira no Sermão da Sexagésima, sendo subdividido em duas partes: a primeira remetendo-se à
alegoria enquanto figura de linguagem; e a segunda apresentando a alegoria de António Vieira e
como ela é construída utilizando-se de uma estrutura da arquitetura barroca, os florões. Este artigo é
desenvolvido a partir de leituras de alguns dos trabalhos de Vieira e de outros teóricos que tratam da
alegoria e da parenética do jesuíta português.

ABSTRACT: This study aims at exploring some of the allegorical work developed by Vieira in the
Sermon on the Sixtieth, being divided into two parts: the first regards the allegory as a figure of
speech; and the second features Antonio Vieira’s allegory and how it is constructed using a structure
of the baroque architecture, the rose. This article is developed from readings of some of Vieira’s
works as well as other theorists that study the Portuguese Jesuit allegory and parenetic.

O ato da escrita é um fazer existir, fazer o invisível tornar-se visível. No

Evangelho de João já se prenuncia: “No principio era o verbo [...] E o verbo se fez
carne...” (Jo, 1:1)2. E o pensamento se fez palavra, e a palavra se fez tangível. O trabalho
da expressão da palavra que outrora era pensamento, utilizando figuras de linguagem
