AGRADECIMENTOS
me apoiado e ajudado nesta caminhada tão difícil.

ABSTRACT
Radiation is something very common in our day to day and we do not even
realize, simply exposing ourselves to the sun, using a telephone or a microwave
is in contact with it. Since its discovery the human being seeks to use it in the
treatment of diseases in the industry so that the food can be preserved for
longer. Nuclear energy represents one of the greatest dilemmas humanity will
face in the 21st century. We need more and more energy to sustain our
development, and the nucleus of the atom is undoubtedly a powerful and
abundant source. However, the risks inherent in nuclear reactions are very
large and even worse are the prospects of their use for military or terrorist
purposes. Unfortunately, the great benefits of nuclear power are little publicized.
Each day, new nuclear techniques are developed in the various fields of human
activity, enabling the execution of tasks impossible to be performed by
conventional means. Medicine, research, industry, particularly pharmaceuticals,
and agriculture are the areas most benefited. The main objective of this
monograph is to show within a reasonable space basic information about the
structure of matter, natural or artificial radioactivity, the effects of ionizing
radiation and expose some of the largest nuclear accidents in the world.

radioativos ( PEDROSA, p 05).
