APPLICATION SCOPE: TASKS
IDENTIFICATION SENSORS

1. TRACK & TRACE

Possibility of tracking and tracing objects along the production, lifecycle or supply chain
Track: Information on the current position of items over the entire production and logistic process
Trace: record of an items way through production and logistics grants maximum transparency e.g. in case of product recalls

HOW DOES THE SENSOR SOLVE THE APPLICATIONS

In order to ensure end-to-end traceability, every item of packaging must be labeled with an individual Data Matrix code, which can be read with
the Lector image-based code reader.
The CLV fixed mount bar code scanner has a reading field optimized for identifying totes on belts. They enable track and trace, product
routing and the assignment of totes to rack spaces.
The car body is identified using UHF RFID read/write devices at any production step. Additional information can be written to the transponder
several times during the process. Parts added to the car body and harsh conditions do not influence the reading performance as no direct visual
contact to the transponder is needed.
With the mobile hand-held scanner mobilescanning of codes is possible ensuring complete traceability.

Version 3.1 Product positioning, market, and competition | Basic 20

APPLICATION SCOPE: TASKS
IDENTIFICATION SENSORS

2. SORTING OBJECTS

Possibility of sorting objects by using transponder, 1D or 2D code information

HOW DOES THE SENSOR SOLVE THE APPLICATIONS

Unlike hand-held scanners, the Lector image-based code reader allows employees to have both hands free at all times. The camera's
large reading range and depth of field enables the object to be automatically identified as soon as it is picked.
The bar code contains information on the next or final destination of the loading equipment, amongst other things. The belt's diverters
are controlled according to the analysis of this information by the CLV fixed mount bar code scanner.
Compact RFID read/write devices, which are optimized for logistics, feature an integrated antenna as well as a definable reading
field. This ensures that RFID tags can be assigned correctly even when objects follow one another in quick succession.
When loading e.g. a baggage cart, the mobile hand-held scanner reads the bar code on the piece of baggage. If a passenger does not
appear for departure, their baggage must be removed from the aircraft.

Version 3.1 Product positioning, market, and competition | Basic 21

APPLICATION SCOPE: TARGET INDUSTRIES
IDENTIFICATION SENSORS

2. SORTING OBJECTS

Logistics
 Manual package sorting in loading and
unloading processes
 Remote control of diverters in package
conveyor systems
 Material handling in automated sorting
systems for courier, express, parcel as well
as retail Manual sorting Automatic sorting of parcels

Automatic sorting of totes Manual baggage handling

Automotive
 Identification of motor blocks via on-metal
transponders, Controlling the production
process by reading/writing the relevant data
on the RFID transponder

Version 3.1 Product positioning, market, and competition | Basic 22

APPLICATION SCOPE: TASKS
IDENTIFICATION SENSORS

3. PROCESS CONTROL

Control the production process by identifying the relevant data on the RFID transponder, the 1D or 2D code or checking
the code position and quality e.g. after printing.

HOW DOES THE SENSOR SOLVE THE APPLICATIONS

The Lector image-based code reader can reliably analyze 1D and 2D codes. Integrated code analysis functions allow an evaluation of the code
quality. If the specified criteria specified are not met the Lector is capable of initiating a discharge procedure.
Samples go through many individual processes in automated laboratory automation. The CLV fixed mount bar code scanner, by identifying
the code on the sample, enables the assignment of the sample with the corresponding test result of the analyzer. It can be integrated into many
different systems in very tight installation spaces.
The RFID read/ write device uses information on the transponder to set the machine to the corresponding parameters automatically.
Information regarding the corresponding production step can be written to the transponder afterwards.
In automated laboratory operation, samples are registered automatically or manually when they are fed into the system. Manual registration is
done with a mobile hand-held scanner.

4.QUALITY CONTROL

Control the specified quality of an object by identifying the RFID transponder, the 1D or 2D code and/or the presence,
position of a code or tag or the quality of a code

HOW DOES THE SENSOR SOLVE THE APPLICATIONS

Food safety is becoming more and more important. As part of this, it must be ensured that the right product ends up in the right packaging. The Inline
Code Matcher quality control system using the Lector image-based code reader takes care of this by comparing various 1D and 2D codes (code
matching) on the packaging.
Important information such as the type of material, film thickness, sheet width, and additional parameters is contained in the bar codes. The CLV fixed
mount bar code scanner reads these 1D codes.
The RFID read/write device can identify multiple objects simultaneously and thus can check e.g. whether all the required packages are on a pallet and
verify whether the right packages are on the pallet.
Mobile hand-held scanner enable the mobile identification of a wide range of 1D and 2D code types and e.g. ensures that a packaging after a format
change matches the machine setup.

Version 3.1 Product positioning, market, and competition | Basic 25

APPLICATION SCOPE: TARGET INDUSTRIES
IDENTIFICATION SENSORS

4. QUALITY CONTROL

Food & Beverage

 Lid verification: checking whether the right
lid is on the package via 2D codes
 Ensuring that packaging after a format
change matches the new format

Rubber & plastics

5.VEHICLE ASSISTANCE

RFID transponder in the ground assists guided vehicle in regards of position determination.
Devices mounted on the vehicle support the driver with the possibility of automatic / mobile code reading devices .

HOW DOES THE SENSOR SOLVE THE APPLICATIONS

Pallet identification is faster and more accurate with CLV fixed mount bar code scanners instead of hand scanning. The CLV is
mounted on the forklift with a special shock absorbing bracket.
RFID transponders in the floor identified with an RFID read/write device assist forklift truck drivers in critical
situations. Contamination or wear poses no problem for identification.
The mobile hand-held scanners assist forklift drivers to scan codes on pallets on racks even in long distances more efficiently
without having to leave the vehicle.
