Impacto da Inteligência Emocional no Engagement e no Burnout dos
Professores: Diferenças de Género

género feminino apresentam níveis mais altos de inteligência emocional. Conclui-se que
This study analyzes, through structural equations, the relationship between emotional
intelligence, engagement and burnout of elementary and secondary school teachers, the
gender differences in this relationship and the gender differences in latent means. Two
hundred and fifty teachers (70.4% female) belonging to the 2nd (26.4%) and 3rd
intelligence has a significant direct effect on teacher burnout levels and an indirect
effect through engagement. The relationship between variables is similar for teachers of
both sexes and female teachers have higher levels of emotional intelligence. It is
concluded that teachers with higher levels of emotional intelligence are more involved
in the work and use all their physical, cognitive and emotional capacities, while
performing their functions, being more protected from the symptoms of burnout.
