Bom passeio!
It is widely known that the Brazilian semiarid is one of the largest and most densely populated semiarids in the world. Yet
the region traditionally considered poverty stricken and socially underdeveloped is actually rich with natural assets and
captivating scenery.
Flowers of the Caatinga tours the one-of-a-kind Caatinga Biome, providing information about the local flora that will
bring readers closer to little known and rarely cultivated species. This region's great potential can and should be
harnessed using appropriate exploration and commercialization methods. Extracting raw materials for pharmaceutical
manufacturing is just one of the many options, which would bring income to the local population.
The National Institute for the Semiarid (INSA/MST) shares in this adventure and has been pursuing new technologies for
utilizing many of nature's offerings. Promoting this natural wealth and cultivating a new vision of the region are among
the objectives contained in the Institute's 2011-2015 Master Plan.
