Adrian Freedman é um músico especializado
na flauta japonesa Zen, a Shakuhachi. Nascido
no ano 1962 em Leeds, na Inglaterra. Desde jovem
ele tocou jazz, música clássica, contemporânea,
e outros gêneros. Morou 7 anos em Kyoto no Japão,
estudando o Zen e a Shakuhachi, e depois visitou
o Brasil por vários anos, onde conheceu os rituais
de música sacra da floresta. Adrian recebeu dois
hinários; sua primeira coleção Song of the Eternal
Heart com 108 canções, e Lotus Rising,
o hinário atual.
Adrian Freedman is a musician specialising in the
Japanese Zen shakuhachi flute. He was born in
Leeds, England in 1962. He played jazz, classical,
contemporary and other forms of music since a
young age. He lived for 7 years in Kyoto, Japan
studying the Zen shakuhachi, and later several
years in Brazil where he encountered the sacred
music rituals of the forest. Adrian has received two
songbooks; his first collection Song of the Eternal
Heart, has 108 songs, Lotus Rising is the current
songbook.

Da escuridão para a Luz
A flor de lótus inicia a sua jornada na lama fria, no fundo escuro do

lago, onde os brotos sobem para a superfície, emergindo deva-
garinho em direção à luz e se abrindo impecavelmente na água.
Todas as noites, as pétalas se fecham enquanto as flores mergul-
ham na água, para nascerem novamente com a luz de um novo
dia. Uma união de lama, água, luz, cor e beleza. Um movimento da

transformação, evolução espiritual e inspiração.

Lotus Rising
from Darkness to Light
The lotus flower begins its journey as a seed in the cold mud
at the dark bottom of the pond, and sends out shoots that
rise through the water towards the surface, slowly emerging
towards the light, opening out of the water in unblemished
perfection.
Each night the petals close as the flower sinks under the water,
to emerge again with the light of a new day. A marriage of mud,
water, light, colour and beauty.
A movement from darkness to light, from closed bud to open
flower, since ancient times the rising lotus has been a symbol of
purity, transformation, spiritual growth and inspiration.

spite of, or maybe even because of, darkness and struggle. Just
like the lotus we too have the ability to rise from the mud, bloom
out of the darkness and radiate into the world.”
