RESUMO
ABSTRACT
Fluid machines are fundamental in our daily lives. These machines enable the
generation of electric energy, the supply of treated water, the conservation of food by
means of refrigeration, the maintenance of thermal comfort using air conditioners and
fans, among others. Industrially, there are countless processes that require the fluid
engines. Most of these processes depend on the flow of fluids or the extraction of the
energy contained in them. This course completion work will seek to emphasize flow
machines with a focus on the study of the dynamic pumps used to pump liquid fluids
of low viscosity, such as water. It is fundamental to understand the basic concepts of
flow machines and mechanical fluid systems using critical reasoning and problem
solving in order to know and select the machines that will be used in pumping system
designs. Although this work is mainly devoted to the study of dynamic pumps, we
also describe positive displacement machines, since it is essential to be able to
discern the field of application of each type of pump. Therefore, we organize this
course completion work by first addressing the operating principles of flow machines,
their classifications and performance parameters, at the end of this chapter to learn
more about the operation of pumps, compressors, blowers, fans and turbines, and be
able to optimally analyze the operation of flow machines and identify their
performance characteristics. Study the series and parallel pump associations and
identify the concepts of dimensional analysis and similarity, in which it will be able to
perform the scaling of different operating conditions and associate pumps in order to
obtain a given point of operation. Studies on the fundamentals of cavitation and the
design of pumping systems, to be able to analyze and design the pumping system
and ensure the efficiency of its operation. Learn to select dynamic pumps, identify the
factors that affect their performance and introduce them to positive displacement
pumps
