- The used method was based on the protocol provided by the Centers for Disease Control
and Prevention (CDC) or by the Charité Institute of Virology _ University of Berlin. Both were
validated with clinical samples and/or synthetic controls, showing 100% agreement.
- This test detects specific biomarkers related to SARS-CoV-2. Positive results are shown
when the amplification of two or more biomarkers are verified in the test.
- The amplification of only one biomarker related to SARS-CoV-2 is reported as
INDERTERMINATE RESULT. It is suggested for the doctor to correlate the patient_s clinical
condition and epidemiologic data and repeat the test. Indeterminate results are often related
to low viral load, pre-analytic limitations, viral RNA degradation, virus mutation and/or early
or
late collection of the specimen.
- A single negative result to SARS-CoV-2 does not exclude the COVID-19 diagnosis.
Several factors such as proper specimen collection, the time difference between the
specimen collection and the beginning of the symptoms and the oscillation of the viral load
during the evolution of the disease may influence the exam result. Therefore, in critical or
progressive tests, or in the presence of clinical-epidemiological data strongly suggestive of
COVID-19 and negative PCR result, the collection of multiple specimens in different times
and locations during the course of the disease may be necessary for the diagnosis of the
infection.
- This test can present, rarely, a false-positive result. According to the recommendation of
the Ministry of Health of Brazil, individuals with fever and/or respiratory symptoms (for
example, coughing and difficulty breathing), with a historic of travelling to areas of local
transmission, or contact with a suspected or confirmed case during the 14 days before the
