COMPUTERS

Computers, one of the greatest advances in modern technology, are widely

used in industry and in universities and time will come when ordinary people will
use them as well. These machines can solve the most complex mathematical
problem or put thousand of unrelated facts in order.
Some time ago an expert pointed out that it was a mistake to believe that
computers could “think”. Though they need detailed instruction from human
beings to operate. They can never lead independent lives or make decisions of
their own. So, there is no possibility that human beings will be “controlled by
machines”.
In the future, computers will be small enough to be carried in the pocket.
They will be used like radios. It is already possible to make tiny translating
machines, which will enable people to talk to each other without any difficulty or
to read foreign publications. Computers are the most efficient servants’ man has
ever had and there is no limit to the way they can be used to improve our lives.

Artificial intelligence

If artificial intelligence says that the mind is a kind of machine, then the mind of the
artists is a machine that produces art. The computer is fast becoming the theater, the
canvas, the pages, the brush, the pen, the piano, the instrument of all art forms. Art is
being sent to cyberia. Digitalization, say technicians, is democratization. Computer
programs like AARON will enable the electronic everyman to produce works of visual
art.

Cyberia = cyberspace
Everyman = ordinary/common man
