In English: Em Português:
me -me
you -te
him -o
her -a
it -o ; -a
us -nos
These are words we use to substitute a noun so that we’re not constantly repeating
ourselves when speaking. In English we have these words as well, and they appear after the
verb too, only without the hyphen connecting both and without having to match the gender of
the noun.
He brought me a cake. You saw me yesterday. - Ele trouxe-me um bolo. Tu viste-me ontem.
(-me doesn’t change for gender or number and it's used in the same way as in English).
I brought you a cake. I saw you yesterday. - Eu trouxe-te um bolo. Eu vi-te ontem. (-te also
doesn’t change for gender or number)
I brought it to the party. I saw him yesterday. Eu trouxe-o para a festa. Eu vi-o ontem. (-o
means it/him in English when substituting a noun and it matches masculine nouns only)
I brought it to the party. I saw her yesterday. Eu trouxe-a para a festa. Eu vi-a ontem. (-a
means it/her in English when substituting a noun and it matches feminine nouns only)
They brought us cake. She saw us yesterday. Eles trouxeram-nos bolo. Ela viu-nos ontem.
(-nos means us and it doesn’t change for gender or number and it's used in the same way as
in English).
I brought them to the party. I saw them yesterday. Eu trouxe-os para a festa. Eu vi-os
ontem. (-os means them in English when substituting a noun and it matches masculine
nouns only)
I brought them to the party. I saw them yesterday. Eu trouxe-as para a festa. Eu vi-as
ontem. (-as means them in English when substituting a noun but it matches feminine nouns
only)
