RESUMO: A globalizao um processo que afeta todos os outros processos histricos que ocorreram nos
ltimos sculos. Apesar de ser tomada como objeto de estudo somente por volta da dcada de 1960, a
globalizao possui caractersticas que evidenciam sua presena na histria desde a insero das Amricas no
sistema mundial. Todavia, o grau de sua profundidade e alcance nas culturas foi expandindo gradualmente, num
conjunto de caractersticas que permitem a definio de fases ao longo de sua constituio, at chegar na
globalizao econmica, cientfica, tecnolgica e cultural de fins do sculo XX. Pretende-se caracterizar tais
etapas a partir de distintas perspectivas tericas que orientam os trabalhos em histria global.

ABSTRACT: Globalization is a process that affects all others historical processes that have happened in the
recent centuries. Despite being taken as object of study only around 1960s, globalization has characteristics that
reveal its presence in the history since the insertion of the Americas in the world system. Nevertheless, the
degree of its depth and scope in the cultures was expanding gradually, in a set of features that allow the
definition of stages throughout its constitution until the reach of economic, scientific, technological and cultural
globalization of the ends of twentieth century. The purpose is to characterize such stages from distinct theoretical
perspectives that guide the work in global history.

1. Introduo
