Giovanni Battista Cimadoro is now forgot- more extended version - but as neither the
ten by all but the musical historian. A concerto northe solo is dated,it is impossible

market, and his songs were still to be heard
in concert halls as late as 1836. He made
piano arrangements of popular songs from
the operas of Mozart, Rossini and Cimarosa.
He is believed to have arranged some of Orchestral material avaiiabie on hire.
Mozart's symphonies as sextets for flute and
strings, but these have not been found. An
intriguing entry in the diary kept by Haydn
mentions that on 2nd Augusí 1794 Haydn
visited Bath, together with'Mr Aster and
Mr Cimandor (sic), a young violin virtuoso Recording
and composerl CORONETUSAsOOs
The Double Bass Concerto was probably Lucas Drew db Warren Broomep/
written in Venice for Dragonetti, although
there is no documentary evidence to prove
this. Caffi , in his'Historia della Musica Sacra'
(1855),records that Dragonetti and Cimador
were close friends, and that it was largely
through the success and encouragement of
the làtter, that the young virtuoso bass
player came to London.
The autograph MS (British Museum Add
17834) is ofthe solo and orchestral parts,the
whole being titled Concerto Per Contrabosso
A tre Cord.e Del Sigr. Gianbatta. Cimador' It
is interesting to find that the thematic
material ofthe last movement is the same as
that used by Dragonetti in one of his own
Double Bass solos, where it appears in a

Das Kontrabass -Konzerú wurde wahrschein-
lich inVenedig und fùr Dragonetti geschrie-
ben, obwohi dies bisher nicht belegt werden
konnte. Caffi berichtet in seiner'Historia
della Musica Sacra'(1855), dass die beiden
Kùnstler eng befreundet waren,was sich frir
Dragonettis Debut in London sehr gùnstig
ausgewirkt haben soll.
Das Werk tràgt den TiteI Concerto Per
Contrabasso Atre Corde Del Sigr. Gianbatta.
Cimado4 wie das Autograph im British
Museum (Add. 17834) zeígt.Bemerkenswert
ist die thematische Verwandtschaft des
Ietzten Satzes mit einem Kontrabass-Solo
von Dragonetti, wo es in etwas erweiterter
Form aufscheint. Da beide Werke undatiert
