Por ser essencial a esse processo, órgãos com maior demanda energética (como o
coração, o cérebro, os rins e o fígado) apresentam maiores concentrações de CoQ10.[2][3][4]
Papel Bioquímico
[editar] Biossíntese
Parte da CoQ é sintetizada a partir da tirosina, enquanto outra parte, é sintetizada a
partir de Acetil-CoA pela via do mevalonato, mesma via utilizada nos primeiros passos
da biossíntese do colesterol. Por apresentar uma parte de sua síntese em comum com
essa molécula, alguns medicamentos para a diminuição da pressão e dos níveis de
colesterol sanguíneo são responsáveis pela inibição da produção de CoQ10.
[editar] Suplementação
Por sua capacidade de transferir elétrons e, portanto, trabalhar como um antioxidante, a
Coenzima Q também é utilizada como suplemento nutricional. A produção de CoQ
diminui com a idade[7], o que aumenta a necessidade de sua suplementação, já que a
falta de CoQ10 pode causar danos no cérebro, em outros órgãos e em mitocôndrias do
corpo todo.[7][8]
[editar] Cardiomiopatia
Alguns estudos já feitos indicaram a melhora da função cardíaca de mais de 80% dos
voluntários analisados com diversos tipos diferentes de cardiomiopatias ao serem
tratados com CoQ10 além dos cuidados médicos usuais. Contudo, com o fim do
tratamento, os pacientes sofreram a deterioração das funções cardíacas comuns ao
problema. [19][20][20][21][22]
[editar] Hipertensão
O suplemento CoQ10 também já foi sugerido para o tratamento de outras doenças, como
diabetes,[25][29] câncer,[30] angina, obesidade, distrofia muscular, etc. Contudo, não há
nenhuma evidência suficientemente forte de que o tratamento traga benefícios.
