I – READING
Read the text carefully.

Hello,

My name is Taylor Daniel Lautner but everybody

calls me Tay. I live in Los Angeles. My favourite
food is ice-cream and my hobbies are hip-hop
dancing, drawing, football and baseball.

Every day I get up at seven o’ clock and I take a

quick shower. Then, at twenty past seven, I get
dressed and at twenty to eight I have breakfast:
cereal, a glass of milk and two pieces of toast.
After having breakfast, I go to the studio and I work 15 hours a day when I’m making
a film. I always eat every two hours
ho urs so I don’t lose weight. I watch American Idol every
Tuesday and Wednesday. I sometimes do karate. I always take my dog for a walk
every day. His name is Roxy.
Roxy. I often help my parents
pa rents when I’m at home. I cut
cu t the grass
and take out the rubbish.

What about you? Tell me about your daily routine and daily habits.

Best wishes,

Taylor Lautner

Charlene Taylor
Hi! I’m Charlene Taylor and I was born in Manchester,
England, on 6th March 2000. I live with my mum Joyce,
my dad Rodney and my brother Tim. My brother studies
Science at Oxford University.
University.

I study at a school not far from my house. I like my class because I’ve got good
friends there. We usually talk about music and our personal problems. When we have
got some free time, we go to the cinema together. We like going to the cinema or to a
music concert. We also like going to Arndale shopping centre to look at the shop
windows. When the weather is good, we go to the park near the school, where we
walk and talk for hours.

What else can I tell you about me? Well, my hobbies are computers and music. I like
listening to music before I go to school. My favourite music is hip-hop and rap. I love
listening to 50 Cent, he’s the greatest. My mother doesn’t like when I listen to 50 Cent,
because she says I play his music too loud. She always asks me to turn
tur n the volume of
my music down.

Hi! I’m Charlene Taylor and I was born in Manchester,
England, on 6th March 2000. I live with my mum Joyce,

She always asks me to turn

my music down.

Reading

Read the following text carefully.

Robert Pattinson, who plays the vampire

Edward Cullen in Twilight, was born on May
13, 1986, in London, England. He is an
excellent musician and plays both the guitar
and piano. He began taking piano lessons
at the age of three, and classical guitar at
five. He attended Harrodian private school
in London and he’s got two older sisters,
Lizzy and Victoria. He is also a close friend
of Daniel Radcliffe, the actor who plays Harry Potter.
Now he is living in Los Angeles and his daily routine is a bit hectic. Every day he gets
up at 6.30 am and goes jogging for an hour. As he plays a skinny vampire he must
exercise so as not to get fat. After his daily jog, he takes a quick shower and has a
light breakfast while listening to his favourite music on his mp3 player.
At 8.30, he drives his silver Jeep to the film studio where he works all day. He has
lunch at the studio canteen and at five he goes to the local Starbucks café to have a
nice strong cup of American coffee. After shooting the different movie scenes planned
for the day, Robert phones his parents back in London, his hometown, because he
loves and misses them a lot. In the evening he has dinner at a local restaurant and
then goes home to watch some TV or DVDs. Before going to bed, b ed, he has a mug of hot
chocolate to help him relax and have a good night’s sleep.

Reading

Read the following text carefully.

Robert Pattins on, who play s the

vampire Edward Cullen in Twilight,
was born on May 13, 1986, in London,
England. He is an excellent musician
and plays both the guitar and piano.
He began taking piano lessons at the
age of three, and classical guitar at
five. He attended Harrodian private
school in London and he’s got two
older sisters, Lizzy and Victoria. He is also a close friend of Daniel Radcliffe, the actor
who plays Harry Potter.

What we like about our school

Dale

I adore my Maths teacher. She knows everything about numbers

and I can ask her anything. I like doing calculations, geometry and
algebra and the fantastic projects that we carry out. Sometimes we
take part in interschool Maths competitions. That’s an interesting
experience. At the moment we’re studying Geometry, all those
angles and calculations are fascinating. I love the activities our
school has to offer, like football and rugby. Last year I was part of the
rugby team and we won almost all our games.

Drama is my favourite subject at school. In drama classes

really sweet. I hate Spanish because I don’t understand it

What we like about our school

Dale

I adore my Maths teacher. She knows everything about numbers

and I can ask her anything. I like doing calculations, geometry
and algebra and the fantastic projects that we carry out.
Sometimes we take part in interschool maths competitions. That’s
a grand experience. At the moment we’re studying Geometry, all
those angles and calculations are fascinating. I lo

TEST 3 (B)

Christine

In my school at the moment, there’s a super competition

that tests our dancing skills, called So you think you
can dance . All you have to do is create a dance routine
to your favourite music. I must say that I like my school

very much. I’m an excellent student, but if there is one

subject that I don’t really like, it’s Geography. I have
a lot of difficulty finding countries on maps!

Chase
I hate homework and studying, but I like going to
school to be with my pals. I love the extracurricular
activities because there’s no homework. I practise
football and tennis after my lessons. I started playing
football four years ago. It’s a lot of fun. I’m good at
football and I won two medals last year. My football idol
is Cristiano Ronaldo. I know he’s not British, but he’s
the greatest player
pl ayer ever.

Melanie
Drama is my favourite subject at school. In drama
classes you can become someone else which is a
lot of fun.   This is my childhood fantasy. I want to
become an international actress and star with Taylor
Lautner. My drama teacher is really sweet. I hate
Spanish because I don’t understand it and it’s really
boring. I also don’t like sports.

Reading

Read the following text carefully.

A tree as a home
The Richmond family decided to leave their comfortable home in the city and went to
live in a tree house commune in Costa Rica.

David and Felicia Richmond were tired of their hectic, life in a polluted city and
decided to buy a tree house and make it their home. They thought this could be their
chance to escape their boring daily routine and experience the real adventure of
living in a foreign country close to nature.

62

AVALIAÇÃO

TEST 4 (A)

When they told their two children about their idea they all felt very excited: they
wanted to meet new people, see new places and learn about nature and animal life in
South America.

The tree house they built is very comfortable: there is a kitchen, a huge dining and
living room, all in one, three bedrooms and a big bathroom. By living near the local
village, they got to know the local people and their traditions, which is fascinating to
an American city person.

Their life changed a lot: time is no longer important and their daily activities are
completely different. For example, as the children don’t go to school they have to do
home schooling. Their parents help them with their school subjects and plan their
schoolwork. They are now both fluent in English and Spanish. In their free time they
play games, go fishing, read a lot and enjoy looking at the stars at night.

A tree as a home
The Richmond family decided to leave their comfortable home in the city and went to
live in a tree house commune in Costa Rica.

What’s so great about Edinburgh Castle?

Edinburgh Castle has little to offer to tourists, whether you

are in Edinburgh for a long break or for a shorter holiday.
The Castle is an impressive fortress waiting to be explored,
a hub of history, and it has splendid views of Edinburgh.

The Castle is also an ideal place for family days about.

Children love to explore every inch of this massive fortress

and ride the cannons in the Middle and Upper Ward.

The panorama from the Castle gives visitors a chance to appreciate Edinburgh’s
Edin burgh’s geological
variety: hills, sea and extinct volcanoes as well as its man-made skyline.

world. What is the sto
story
ry of
the man with magic in his boots.

Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro is Ronaldo’s full name. His family had relatives in
the USA which inspired his parents to give him the name of the American President at
that time, Ronald Reagan.
He was born in Funchal, Madeira, an island South of Portugal, in 1985. His family was
poor and they lived in a modest old house. When he was eight, he played football for
the team of his village and as he had a lot of talent in 1995 he signed a contract with
the biggest team in Madeira, Nacional. His salary was a two year supply of T-shirts,
shorts and football boots which he needed to play football.
Two years later he joined the famous Portuguese team, Sporting. In Lisbon he went to
the same academy as top Portuguese player Luís Figo went to.
In 2002, Ronaldo made an excellent impression on the coach of Manchester United,
Sir Alex Ferguson when his team beat them at an important game. Ronaldo scored
two of the goals.

AVALIAÇÃO

TEST 6 (A)

One year later Manchester United bought him for £12.24 million (17.48 million Euros).
He wore David Beckham’s number seven shirt.
During Euro 2004 Ronaldo played brilliantly
brilliantl y for Portugal. In the game against England
he wore golden football boots.
In 2009 Ronaldo was voted the Best Football Player in the world and was transferred
at the end of the season to the team he has wanted to play in for a long time, Real
Madrid. This was the most expensive transfer ever and he became the most expensive
football player in the world.
Today Ronaldo is rich, famous and successful, but he is still modest. He doesn’t get
too stressed during games and avoids the newspapers who want to know everything
about his life. That’s why Roy Keane, the Manchester United captain said “I think
Ronaldo is a real star of the future.”

TEST 6 (B)

He was born in Funchal, Madeira, an island South of Portugal, in 1985. His family
was poor and they lived in a modest old house. When he was eight, he played
football for the team of his village and as he had a lot of talent in 1995 he signed a
contract with the biggest team in Madeira, Nacional. His salary was a two year
supply of T-shirts, shorts and football boots which he needed to play football.
Two years later he joined the famous Portuguese team, Sporting. In Lisbon he went
to the same academy as top Portuguese player Luís Figo went to.
In 2002, Ronaldo made an excellent impression on the coach of Manchester United,
Sir Alex Ferguson when his team beat them at an important game. Ronaldo scored
two of the goals.
One year later Manchester United bought him for £12.24 million (17.48 million
Euros). He wore David Beckham’s number seven shirt.
During Euro 2004 Ronaldo played brilliantly for Portugal. In the game against
England he wore golden football boots.
In 2009 Ronaldo was voted the Best Football Player in the world and was transferred

at the end of the season to the team he has wanted to play in for a long time, Real
Madrid. This was the most expensive transfer ever and he became the most
expensive football player in the world.
Today Ronaldo is rich, famous and successful, but he is still modest. He doesn’t get
too stressed during games and avoids the newspapers who want wan t to know everything
about his life. That’s why Roy Keane, the Manchester United captain said “I think
Ronaldo is a real star of the future.”
