I – Reading
Read the text carefully.

Hello,

My name is Taylor Daniel Lautner but everybody

calls me Tay. I live in Los Angeles. My favourite
food is ice-cream and my hobbies are hip-hop
dancing, drawing, football and baseball.

Every day I get up at seven o’ clock and I take a

quick shower. Then, at twenty past seven, I get
dressed and at twenty to eight I have breakfast:
cereal, a glass of milk and two pieces of toast.
After having breakfast, I go to the studio and I work 15 hours a day when I’m making
a film. I always eat every two hours so I don’t lose weight. I watch American Idol every
Tuesday and Wednesday. I sometimes do karate. I always take my dog for a walk
every day. His name is Roxy. I often help my parents when I’m at home. I cut the grass
and take out the rubbish.

What about you? Tell me about your daily routine and daily habits.

Best wishes,

Taylor Lautner

A tree as a home
The Richmond family decided to leave their comfortable home in the city and went to
live in a tree house commune in Costa Rica.

David and Felicia Richmond were tired of their hectic, life in a polluted city and
decided to buy a tree house and make it their home. They thought this could be their
chance to escape their boring daily routine and experience the real adventure of
living in a foreign country close to nature.

TEST 4 (A)

When they told their two children about their idea they all felt very excited: they
wanted to meet new people, see new places and learn about nature and animal life in
South America.

The tree house they built is very comfortable: there is a kitchen, a huge dining and
living room, all in one, three bedrooms and a big bathroom. By living near the local
village, they got to know the local people and their traditions, which is fascinating to
an American city person.

Their life changed a lot: time is no longer important and their daily activities are
completely different. For example, as the children don’t go to school they have to do
home schooling. Their parents help them with their school subjects and plan their
schoolwork. They are now both fluent in English and Spanish. In their free time they
play games, go fishing, read a lot and enjoy looking at the stars at night.

Justin Bieber’s family house

Justin Bieber’s current family home is in Stratford, Canada. He currently shares this particular
home with his parents and grandparents. It is a moderately sized family house built from standard
house bricks, and it appears to be set over two floors.
There is a single driveway and a garage, suitable for housing a single car.
There appears to be a medium sized lawn at the front of the house but no view of the rear garden
is available at the moment.
It is not known exactly how often Justin Bieber is present at this family house anymore due to
tours and media events, but it is likely he would still visit there when he returns home.

What’s so great about Edinburgh Castle?

Edinburgh Castle has little to offer to tourists, whether you

are in Edinburgh for a long break or for a shorter holiday.
The Castle is an impressive fortress waiting to be explored,
a hub of history, and it has splendid views of Edinburgh.

The Castle is also an ideal place for family days about.

Children love to explore every inch of this massive fortress
and ride the cannons in the Middle and Upper Ward.

The panorama from the Castle gives visitors a chance to appreciate Edinburgh’s geological
variety: hills, sea and extinct volcanoes as well as its man-made skyline.

Hi Mandy.

I’m only emailing you now because I wasn’t home the whole weekend. My parents
decided to take some time off and we went to Scotland. It was fabulous. Oh! The
weather there is as wet as it is here in York.
We travelled to a village near Edinburgh for the weekend, mum, dad and I in our new
car. It’s silver and very comfortable. We stayed at my aunt’s house because the hotels
are very expensive. She lives in a very nice cottage surrounded by trees and flowers.
Country life is really calm and healthy. The only thing that I didn’t like about my stay
was having to get along with my cousin Randy. I don’t like him because he wears

his arms.

On Saturday morning, we went to visit Edinburgh Castle, which is on top of an extinct

volcano. We had lunch in a typical little restaurant and ate Haggis, which is a
traditional Scottish dish. In the afternoon we went shopping on the Royal Mile and
Victoria Street and I bought presents for everyone.
On Sunday, dad wanted to drive up to the Highlands but mum was too tired. She
stayed at home and dad and I drove up. We went all the way to Loch Ness, and did
a cruise on the lake, to try and see the famous Loch Ness monster. It was great fun,
but we didn’t see it.
We drove back late last night. I’m still tired, but it was great. I loved going to Scotland!

Bye. See you at school tomorrow.

Read the following text carefully.

Cristiano Ronaldo
He is one of the most talented young
footballers in the world. What is the story of
the man with magic in his boots.

Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro is Ronaldo’s full name. His family had relatives in
the USA which inspired his parents to give him the name of the American President at
that time, Ronald Reagan.
He was born in Funchal, Madeira, an island South of Portugal, in 1985. His family was
poor and they lived in a modest old house. When he was eight, he played football for
the team of his village and as he had a lot of talent in 1995 he signed a contract with
the biggest team in Madeira, Nacional. His salary was a two year supply of T-shirts,
shorts and football boots which he needed to play football.
Two years later he joined the famous Portuguese team, Sporting. In Lisbon he went to
the same academy as top Portuguese player Luís Figo went to.
In 2002, Ronaldo made an excellent impression on the coach of Manchester United,
Sir Alex Ferguson when his team beat them at an important game. Ronaldo scored
two of the goals.

TEST 6 (A)

One year later Manchester United bought him for £12.24 million (17.48 million Euros).
He wore David Beckham’s number seven shirt.
During Euro 2004 Ronaldo played brilliantly for Portugal. In the game against England
he wore golden football boots.
In 2009 Ronaldo was voted the Best Football Player in the world and was transferred
at the end of the season to the team he has wanted to play in for a long time, Real
Madrid. This was the most expensive transfer ever and he became the most expensive
football player in the world.
Today Ronaldo is rich, famous and successful, but he is still modest. He doesn’t get

Ronaldo is a real star of the future.”
