A tree as a home
The Richmond family decided to leave their comfortable home in the city and went to
live in a tree house commune in Costa Rica.
David and Felicia Richmond were tired of their hectic, life in a polluted city and
decided to buy a tree house and make it their home. They thought this could be their
chance to escape their boring daily routine and experience the real adventure of
living in a foreign country close to nature.

TEST 4 (A)
When they told their two children about their idea they all felt very excited: they
wanted to meet new people, see new places and learn about nature and animal life in
South America.
The tree house they built is very comfortable: there is a kitchen, a huge dining and
living room, all in one, three bedrooms and a big bathroom. By living near the local
village, they got to know the local people and their traditions, which is fascinating to
an American city person.
Their life changed a lot: time is no longer important and their daily activities are
completely different. For example, as the children don’t go to school they have to do
home schooling. Their parents help them with their school subjects and plan their
schoolwork. They are now both fluent in English and Spanish. In their free time they
play games, go fishing, read a lot and enjoy looking at the stars at night.

AVALIAÇÃO
TEST 4 (B)
In their free time they
play games, go fishing, read a lot and enjoy looking at the stars at night.

that time, Ronald Reagan.
He was born in Funchal, Madeira, an island South of Portugal, in 1985. His family was
poor and they lived in a modest old house. When he was eight, he played football for
the team of his village and as he had a lot of talent in 1995 he signed a contract with
the biggest team in Madeira, Nacional. His salary was a two year supply of T-shirts,
shorts and football boots which he needed to play football.
Two years later he joined the famous Portuguese team, Sporting. In Lisbon he went to
the same academy as top Portuguese player Luís Figo went to.
In 2002, Ronaldo made an excellent impression on the coach of Manchester United,
Sir Alex Ferguson when his team beat them at an important game. Ronaldo scored
two of the goals.

TEST 6 (A)
One year later Manchester United bought him for £12.24 million (17.48 million Euros).
He wore David Beckham’s number seven shirt.
During Euro 2004 Ronaldo played brilliantly for Portugal. In the game against England
he wore golden football boots.
In 2009 Ronaldo was voted the Best Football Player in the world and was transferred
at the end of the season to the team he has wanted to play in for a long time, Real
Madrid. This was the most expensive transfer ever and he became the most expensive
football player in the world.
Today Ronaldo is rich, famous and successful, but he is still modest. He doesn’t get
too stressed during games and avoids the newspapers who want to know everything
about his life. That’s why Roy Keane, the Manchester United captain said “I think
Ronaldo is a real star of the future.”
