presente ou no futuro.

ESTRUTURA VERBAL DA SECOND CONDITIONAL:

PAST WOULD + INFINITIVE

would not = wouldn’t
SIMPLE

If I won the lottery, I would buy a farm.

(Se eu ganhasse na loteria, eu compraria uma fazenda.)

I'd go to the beach with you if I didn't have to study.

Eu iria para praia com você se não tivesse que estudar.)
If I had a dictionary, I would look these words up.
(Se eu tivesse um dicionário, procuraria estas palavras.)

If Maria spoke English better, she could be a bilingual

secretary.
(Se Maria falasse melhor Inglês, ela poderia ser uma
secretária bilíngue.)

What would you do if you lost your job?

(O que você faria se perdesse seu emprego?)

If I had a driver's license, I could go by car.

(Se eu tivesse carteira de motorista, eu poderia ir de carro.)

If they studied during their vacation, they might pass the examination.
(Se eles estudassem durante as férias, eles poderiam passar na prova.)
OBSERVAÇÕES:

- Nas orações condicionais, o verbo to be no passado tem a forma were para todas as
pessoas. Convém salientar, entretanto, que, na linguagem mais informal, was é aceito em
vez de were na 1ª e 3ª pessoas:
 If he weren't so arrogant, I'd forgive him. (Se ele não fosse tão arrogante, eu o
perdoaria.)
 If she were angry, she would refuse to speak to you. (Se ela estivesse braba, ela
se recusaria a falar com você.)
 If I were you, I would accept their offer. (Se eu fosse você, aceitaria a oferta deles.)
 If my nose were a little shorter, I'd be quite pretty. (Se meu nariz fosse um pouco
menor, até que eu seria bonita.)
- Após I e we, should pode ser usado com o mesmo significado de would. (Would é mais
comum no inglês moderno; é raro o uso de should no inglês americano.):

 If I knew her name, I should tell you. (Se eu soubesse o nome dela, eu diria a
você.)
 If I married you, we should both be unhappy. (Se eu casasse com você, nós dois
seríamos infelizes.)

 TEXT: IF I DIDN’T HAVE TO GO TO WORK
My name is Jane. I hate getting up early in the morning. I really hate it! And I hate this
busy life in the city.
Life in the city is not for me! Traffic, pollution, noise, rush …
I work in a big office in town. I do not like my job. If I did not have to go to work, I would
live in the country. Yes, that is what I would do! I would buy a small house near a lake or a
river and I would have a dog. I love dogs, but I cannot have one now because my flat is so
small.
My dog and I would go for long walks in the countryside and we would go fishing and
hunting. I would have a garden with lots of flowers and fruit trees and I would grow my own
vegetables!
Of course, my friends could come and see me at weekends. I would tell them about this
peace and quiet. I would not miss the city at all.
Unfortunately, this is still one of my dreams. I hope it comes true one day. If it came true,
I would be the happiest person in the world!!!

Meu nome é Jane. Eu odeio acordar cedo. Eu realmente não gosto! Eu não gosto dessa
vida agitada na cidade.
A vida na cidade não é para mim! Trânsito, poluição, ruído, agitação ...
Eu trabalho em um grande escritório na cidade. Eu não gosto do meu trabalho. Se eu
não tivesse que trabalhar, viveria no campo. Sim, isso é o que eu faria! Eu compraria uma
casinha perto de um lago ou rio e teria um cachorro. Amo cães, mas não posso ter um no
momento porque meu apartamento é muito pequeno.
Meu cachorro e eu sairíamos para longas caminhadas no campo e iríamos pescar e
caçar. Eu teria um jardim com muitas flores e árvores frutíferas e plantaria meus próprios
vegetais!
Claro, meus amigos poderiam vir me ver nos fins de semana. Eu contaria a eles sobre
essa paz e o sossego. Eu não sentiria falta da cidade.
Infelizmente, este ainda é um dos meus sonhos. Espero que um dia se torne realidade.
Se isso fosse verdade, eu seria a pessoa mais feliz do mundo!!!
