COMPARATIVO E SUPERLATIVO: DEFINIÇÃO
• O COMPARATIVO é usado para comparar dois elementos.
• Helen is more intelligent than Bob. (Helen é mais inteligente que Bob.)
• João is more dedicated than Pedro. (João é mais dedicado que Pedro.)
• SUPERLATIVO:
• The most... (o mais...):o superlativo de adjetivos com mais de uma sílaba.

• Alguns adjetivos de duas sílabas podem seguir as duas regras de formação de comparativo ou
superlativo.

• Comparativo de igualdade:
• He is as tall as his brother.
(Ele é tão alto quanto o irmão dele.)
• Comparativo de desigualdade:
• He is not as/so tall as his brother.
(Ele não é tão alto quanto o irmão dele.)
• Comparativo de inferioridade:
• He is less dedicated than his brother.
(Ele é menos dedicado que o irmão dele.)
• Superlativo de inferioridade:
• He is the least dedicated person in his family.
(Ele é a pessoa menos dedicada da família dele.)
• The Grand Hotel isn’t as expensive as the Europa. (The Europa is more expensive.)
O Grand Hotel não é tão caro quanto o Europa. (O Europa é mais caro.)
• The weather is better than it was yesterday. It isn’t as cold. (= As cold as it was yesterday.)
O tempo está melhor do que ontem. Não está tão frio. (=Tão frio quanto ontem.)
• You don’t work as hard as me. / You don’t work as hard as I do.
Você não trabalha tão arduamente quanto eu.
• ATTENTION: o superlativo de advérbios segue a mesma regra do superlativo dos adjetivos, mas seu uso não é
muito comum na língua inglesa.

• She works more happily than Sam. (Ela trabalha mais feliz que Sam.)
• They work less happily than her. (Eles trabalham menos felizes que ela.)
• Maria drives more carefully now. (Maria dirige com mais cuidado agora.)
• Messi ran the most quickly of all players. (Messi correu o mais rápido de todos os jogadores.)
COMPARATIVO E SUPERLATIVO IRREGULAR
• Assim como alguns adjetivos, há advérbios que fazem o comparativo de forma irregular
• Badly: Dad drives worse than mom. (Papai dirige pior que mamãe.)
• Little: He needs less than you. (Ele precisa de menos do que você.)
• Far: He lives farther away from school than you. (Ele mora mais longe da escola do que você.)
• Well: You know him better than me. (Você o conhece melhor do que eu.)
• Much: He exercises more than you. (Ele se exercita mais do que você.)
CONSTRUÇÕES ESPECIAIS FEITAS COM COMPARATIVOS
• Comparativo de progressão paralela:
• Adjetivos
• He is getting fatter and fatter. (Ele está cada vez mais gordo.)
• Gasoline is more and more expensive every year. (A gasolina está cada vez mais cara.)
• Advérbios
• The more I see you, the more I love you. (Quanto mais te vejo, mais te amo.)
COMPARATIVO LIKE E AS
• Comparativo LIKE = semelhante a / igual a:
• She looks like her mother. (Ela se parece com a mãe dela.)
• He has worked as a teacher for a long time. (Ele trabalhou como professor por muito tempo.)
• As you know, I’m leaving tomorrow. (Como você sabe, irei embora amanhã.)
• AS IF e AS THOUGH= LIKE
• He acted like / as though / as if he had seen a ghost. (Ele agiu como se tivesse visto um fantasma.)
