PAST PROGRESSIVE / CONTINUOUS

O ‘Past Progressive / Continuous’ é usado para indicar ações e eventos que estavam
acontecendo no passado durante um certo tempo.

O Past Progressive é formado com o verbo TO BE (was / were) no passado e o

verbo principal com ING.

Exemplo:

Tradução: Ele estava lendo.

 SIMPLE PAST X PAST PROGRESSIVE

O ‘Past Progressive’ é muitas vezes utilizado em períodos com o ‘Simple Past’.

Nesses casos, há uma ação ou um evento acontecendo (indicado pelo ‘Past
Progressive’) quando outra ação ou evento apareceu e foi finalizado (indicados pelo
‘Simple Past’). WHEN é a palavra que geralmente une essas duas partes do período.

Exemplo:

Tradução : Eu estava assistindo TV quando ela chamou.

* Agora observe as formas afirmativa, negativa e interrogativa do ‘Past Progressive’
