Intensidade do som: medida e percepção
Infrasound
- sounds with frequencies below the
normal human range of hearing.
Sounds below 20 Hz .
1. Produzido e ouvido por alguns animais: elefante, baleia, rinoceronte, algumas
aves, alguns peixes e moluscos.
ULTRASOUND
Internal organs can be examined via the images produced by the reflection and
absorption of ultrasonic waves. Use of ultrasonic waves is safer than x-rays but
images show less details. Certain organs such as the liver and the spleen are
invisible to x-rays but visible to ultrasonic waves.

2.4 The Units of Sound
• The units that are relevant to sound can be classified into two groups:
absolute units and subjective units.
• Absolute units
– The unit of pressure = Pascal(Pa) = N/m2
– The unit of velocity = m/sec
– The unit of intensity = Pa‧m/sec = watt/m2
– The unit of energy = joule = watt‧sec

Outra unidade da percepção sonora
Sone
A escala sone é linear. Duplicar a
intensidade percebida duplica o valor sone.

• The figure below shows curves of equal loudness as a function of frequency. At the
frequencies where these curves dip downward, sounds of lower intensity seem just
as loud as sounds of higher intensity at other frequencies.
• The two prominent dips near 3500 Hz and 11,000 Hz are due to standing waves in
the ear canal.
Pressure, intensity and specific impedance
The intensity I is defined as the power per unit area. I = (P/4πr2 ) (1/r2).
For acoustic waves, the specific acoustic impedance z is defined as the ratio of the acoustic
pressure p to the average particle velocity u: z = p/u .
The intensity I is defined as :
I = p2/z
For air, the specific acoustic impedance z is 420 kg.s−1.m−2 = 420 Pa.s.m−1. For (fresh) water, the
specific acoustic impedance for water is 1.48 MPa.s.m−1. So a sound wave in water with the same
pressure has a much lower intensity than one in air.
Exemplo
Então L = 10 log [(I1/n2)/I1] = 10 log (1/n 2) = −10 log (n 2) = −20 log n.
Por exemplo, se n = 2 L = −20 log 2 = -20 x 0.3010299957 6,0 dB.
Obs.
