SUPERLATIVA
DOS
ADJETIVOS

As formas superlativas dos adjetivos em inglês


possuem 2 formas, acrescentando -est ou usando
most.

Mount Everest is the highest mountain in the world.


It’s the most dangerous to climb too.
(Monte Everest é a montanha mais alta do mundo. É
a mais perigosa de escalar também.)

a) quando o adjetivo possuir uma sílaba


acrescentamos -est.

E.g. high → the highest long → the longest


small → the smallest

The Amazon River is the longest river in the world.


(O Rio Amazonas é o rio mais longo do mundo.)
Se o adjetivo terminar em CVC
(Consoante + Vogal +
Consoante) a última consoante
é dobrada:

fat → the fattest


sad → the
saddest wet
→ the wettest

That’s the
saddest movie
ever.
(Aquele é o filme mais triste de todos os tempos.)

Se o adjetivo acaba em –e só acrescentamos o –st.

late → the latest close → the closest


strange → the strangest

Larry is my closest friend.


(Larry é meu amigo mais próximo.)

Se o adjetivo tiver 1 ou 2
sílabas e terminar em –y
trocamos o y por –iest.

shy → the shiest ugly →

b) quando o adjetivo possuir 3 ou mais sílabas


usamos “the most”.

generous → the most generous important → the

(O presidente é o politico mais
importante de um país.)

Attention!!!

Alguns adjetivos de 2 sílabas aceitam as 2 formas.

gentle → the gentlest / the most gentle quiet →


the quietest / the most quiet
Her bedroom is the quietest place in her house. / Her
bedroom is the most quiet place in her house.
(O quarto dela é o lugar mais quieto da sua casa.)

Mas alguns apenas aceitam a forma com “the most”.

pleasant → the most


pleasant perfect → the
most perfect joyful →
the most joyful

Mick had the most pleasant


dream last night.
(Mick teve o sonho mais agradável noite passada.)

Irregular Comparative Forms:

Adam is Monica’s best friend.

Gianno’s is the worst restaurant in my city.


(Gianno’s é o pior restaurante na minha cidade.)

A forma contrária

de "the most" é

"the least" e

usamos com

todos adjetivos não importando quantas sílabas

tenha.

The silver ring is the least expensive ring here.


(O anel de prata é o menos caro anel aqui.)
