ADJETIVOS
seem (parecer), smell (cheirar), sound (parecer), appear (aparecer), make (fazer), taste ( saborear).
She believes in the resurrection of the dead.

Observe a

The fact that one man’s violence is less frequent or less intense than another’s does not make it
excusable.

The question number 23 was easy. It was easier than the question 22.
more antes do adjetivo, veja os exemplos abaixo:
Some people believe that white teeth are the “prettiest and healthiest ones”.

When? (Quando?) e Where? (Onde?):
My mom cleans the room carefully. (How does my mom clean the room? ~ carefully)
Minha mãe limpa o quarto cuidadosamente. (Como minha mãe limpa o quarto? ~
cuidadosamente)
resposta à pergunta How? (Quão?):
My mom is extremely careful in cleaning the room. (How careful is my mom in cleaning the
room? ~ extremely). – modificou o adjetivo careful.
Minha mãe é extremamente cuidadosa na limpeza do quarto. (Quão cuidadosa é minha mãe na
limpeza do quarto? ~ extremamente).
The car is very old. (How old is the car? ~ very) – modificou o adjetivo old.
O carro é muito velho. (Quão velho é o carro? ~ muito)
The car is completely below the rain. (How below the rain is the car? ~ completely) –
modificou o advérbio de lugar below.
O carro está completamente debaixo de chuva. (Quão debaixo da chuva está o carro? ~
completamente)
The car was badly washed. (How was the car washed? ~ badly). – modificou o particípio
washed.
O carro foi lavado pessimamente. (Como o carro foi lavado? ~ pessimamente)
The car was washed yesterday. (When was the car washed? ~ yesterday)
O carro foi lavado ontem. (Quando o carro foi lavado? ~ ontem)
There was a power failure earlier today and the trains are all running late now.
Eles servem de resposta à pergunta Where? (onde).
No
acontecem. Observe os mais usados:
Millions of Americans will soon have to scan their faces to access their Internal Revenue Service
tax accounts, one of the government’s biggest expansions yet of facial recognition software into
people’s everyday lives. (The Washington post)
Os advérbios interrogativos Why (Por que), Where (Onde), How (Como) e When (Quando) são
usados para fazer perguntas. Eles são posicionados no início da frase.
EXERCÍCIOS
a) closely
b) enough
c) fast
d) further / farther
e) good

i) monthly
Gabarito:
a) Intimamente.
b) Pode significar tanto “SUFICIENTE” quanto “SUFICIENTEMENTE”.
c) Rápido, rapidamente. Não existe “FASTLY”.
d) Mais distante.
They have been living here in this city for over ten years.
As quickly as possible, she answered the questions and finished her exam.
Barely had she walked the door, when the kids came to kiss her.
Mal ela tinha entrado, as crianças vieram beijá-la.
Lugar above (acima), below (abaixo), nowhere (em parte alguma), there
(lá)
PREFIXOS
acontece, mudam o significado delas.
Prefixo Significado
MIS erradamente
PRE antes
RE novamente
UN negação, oposição
UNDER abaixo
The unhappy and impolite child returns from the preschool with his shoes untied.
The employee was unable to unlock the door and redo the job.
No exemplo abaixo temos o Past
Continuous (Passado Contínuo).
4.1.2. No Gerúndio:
Confira
alguns usos desse sufixo no quadro abaixo:
careless - descuidado painless - indolor
personalidade específica: coldhearted (desalmado, cruel), lighthearted (jovial, alegre)

As communications professionals, it’s very easy to get caught up in the hype and
excitement about all the new online communications tactics we have available to us today. 4
YouTube is a great example. It’s tempting to view tools like this as a silver bullet for our
communications woes. YouTube used to be primarily a great source for videos of music and kids
hurting themselves on skateboards. No longer. It’s becoming a more common tool for corporate
communications.
Your management may want to rush out, jump into the deep end and start using YouTube
to communicate directly with people. If you can, you should get them to pause and consider
several questions first:
This is a basic list of fundamental questions you should answer before you launch into using

Comentários:
01. As regards YouTube, the author believes one should be
(A) wanton.
(B) wanting.
(C) wary.
(D) weary.
(E) worried.
O autor incentiva o leitor a pensar. O autor

It’s tempting to view tools like this as a silver bullet for our communications woes.
Portanto a nossa opção correta é a letra C) offer solutions= oferecer soluções.
GABARITO: C

03 In “It’s tempting to view tools like this” (line 4) like is used in the same way as in
significados diferentes. Vamos então analisar as opções uma a uma:
(A) Media professionals use software like Word and Excel. - Os profissionais da mídia usam
software como o Word e o Excel.
It’s tempting to view tools like this as a silver bullet for our communications woes.
Observe que a frase citada no enunciado, “It’s temptating see tools like this” = “É tentador ver
Portanto
esta é a opção correta.
(B) The new computer tool did not come out like he had planned.
(C) I hope you soon find out about media professionals likes. - Espero que em breve você
descubra as preferências dos profissionais da mídia.
(D) Media professionals can get something like US$ 2,000.00.
por isso, a opção está incorreta.
(E) There is nothing I like about media and correlated studies. - Não tem nada que eu goste
sobre mídia e estudos correlacionados.
Nessa opção o like é verbo. Primeira pessoa do singular, no tempo verbal Presente simples.
incorreta.
GABARITO: A
cativante
Rush – apressar, precipitado, ímpeto, avanço, To be Born with a silver spoon in your mouth
Rush out – sair correndo, apressar-se a fim de Every cloud has a silver lining – todo
atalho

TEXTO 2
Analista de Apoio - Turismólogo – CODEMIG – FGV
Mining is an activity that has persisted since the start of humans using tools. However, one might
argue that digging a big hole in the ground and selling the finite resources that come out of that
hole is not sustainable, especially when the digging involves the use of other finite resources (i.e.
fuels) and produces a lot of greenhouse gases.
The counter argument could go along the lines that minerals are not being lost or destroyed
through mining and mineral processing – the elements are being shifted around, and converted
into new forms. Metals can even be extracted from waste, seawater or even sewage, and
recycled. But a more simple argument is possible: a mine can be sustainable if it is economically,
socially and environmentally beneficial in the short and long term. To be sustainable, the positive
benefits of mining should outweigh any negative impacts. [...]
Social positives are often associated with mines in regional areas, such as providing better
amenities in a nearby town, or providing employment (an economic and social positive). Social
negatives can also occur, such as dust, noise, traffic and visual amenity. These are commonly
debated and, whilst sometimes controversial, can be managed with sufficient corporate
commitment, stakeholder engagement, and enough time to work through the issues. Time is the
key parameter - it may take several years for a respectful process of community input, but as
long as it is possible for social negatives to be outweighed by social positives, then the project
will be socially sustainable.
It is most likely that a mine development will have some environmental negatives, such as direct
impacts on flora and fauna through clearing of vegetation and habitat within the mine footprint.
Some mines will have impacts which extend beyond the mine site, such as disruption to
groundwater, production of silt and disposal of waste. Certainly these impacts will need to be
managed throughout the mine life, along with robust rehabilitation and closure planning. [...]
The real turning point will come when mining companies go beyond environmental compliance
to create ‘heritage projects’ that can enhance the environmental or social benefits in a
substantial way – by more than the environmental offsets needed just to make up for the
negatives created by the mine. In order to foster these innovative mining heritage projects we
need to promote ‘sustainability assessments’ - not just ‘environmental assessments’. This will lead
to a more mature appreciation of the whole system whereby the economic and social factors, as
well as environmental factors, are considered in a holistic manner.

Comentários:
04. As regards the content of Text 3, analyse the assertions below:
I - It is well - known that the resources extracted from mines are endless.
II - The social negative impacts of mining may be minimized as time goes by.
III - Sustainable assessment has a wider field of action than environmental assessment.
IV - There is agreement that negative impacts of mining are restricted to the site.
I - It is well - known that the resources extracted from mines are endless.
However, one might argue that digging a big hole in the ground and selling the finite resources
that come out of that hole is not sustainable, especially when the digging involves the use of
other finite resources (i.e. fuels) and produces a lot of greenhouse gases.
Errada.
II - The social negative impacts of mining may be minimized as time goes by.
Time is the key parameter - it may take several years for a respectful process of community input,
but as long as it is possible for social negatives to be outweighed by social positives, then the
project will be socially sustainable.
Correta.
III - Sustainable assessment has a wider field of action than environmental assessment.
In order to foster these innovative mining heritage projects we need to promote ‘sustainability
assessments’ - not just ‘environmental assessments’. This will lead to a more mature appreciation
of the whole system whereby the economic and social factors, as well as environmental factors,
are considered in a holistic manner.

Errada.

no curto e longo prazo.
impactos negativos.

TEXTO 3
Cargos Diversos de Nível Superior – CODESP-SP - FGV
Towing ships is a dynastic business, hard to establish and harder still to give up. It's built
on deep allegiance and cutthroat margins, and its 5 inner workings are full of intrigue and
successionary drama: fistfights, lawsuits, power struggles, and disinheritances.
The early tugs were expensive to staff and almost comically difficult to steer. A twelve-
hundred-horsepower boat might burn twenty 10 tons of coal in a day and require ten men to
shovel it. Every time the tug needed to reverse direction, the engine had to be stopped and re-
started, by which point the boat might well have run aground.
Modern tugs are very different beasts. They can have ten thousand horsepower and carry a
hundred thousand gallons of fuel. Their propulsion systems have evolved from coal to diesel,
from paddle wheel to propeller. Now they may go five thousand miles without changing course.
Then, when things finally get interesting - when land heaves into view and headlands rise, when
currents intersect and wind barrel down from surrounding slopes, when a narrow channel must
be negotiated
25 under bridges, between breakwaters, and into a crowded port - the tug captain assumes
control.
The shipping industry has gone on a construction spree lately, building ships more than a
thousand feet long with as much cargo space 30 as eleven thousand trucks. It means that fewer
but more powerful tugs are required to tow the same amount of cargo, and shipping schedules
have accelerated dramatically. Tugs that could once afford to 35 lie at port for a week or two
now have turn-arounds of less than twenty-four hours. It is a new era for tugboats!

Dynastic = relativo a dinastia, uma sequência de regras da mesma família = is passed over from

Every time the tug needed to reverse direction, the engine had to be stopped and re-started, by
which point the boat might well have run aground.

Auditor - CGE-MA – FGV
The pace of technology change continues to move at what seems to be nearly the speed
of light and shows no real signs of slowing down. What is considered a new technology today is
old technology tomorrow. In contrast to the speed of change in technology, consider the speed
of change in the audit world. Unfortunately, audit processes and approaches have not changed
in what seems to be light years.
Many firms jumped on the technology bandwagon over the past several years but
frequently question their return on investment through enhanced efficiency and improved audit
effectiveness. Bill Gates is quoted at stating, “The first rule of any technology used in a business
is that automation applied to an efficient operation will magnify the efficiency. The second is that
automation applied to an inefficient operation will magnify the inefficiency.” Unfortunately, many
firms unknowingly followed Mr. Gates’ second rule and have applied technology to inefficient
processes. The end result has been minimal improvement in efficiency and effectiveness, at best.
While many firms wanted their technology investment to be a blessing, it just hasn’t turned out
that way. The good news is that it is not too late. You can turn the tide and have technology
utilization become a tremendous asset in audit process.

TEXTO 5
Auditor - CGE-MA – FGV
When it comes to the pressure of successfully identifying, anticipating and dealing with
risks, few auditors shoulder as much burden as those who work with the government. As the
Institute of Internal Auditors' Richard Chambers wrote in his recent blog, these professionals deal
with career-threatening political risks on a daily basis that many private sector auditors could
never comprehend.
Internal auditors play a pivotal role in the relationship between the government and
citizens. It's up to auditors to set the appropriate controls to manage federal programs and also
to provide insight into the effectiveness and the soundness of the government's inner workings.
Put simply, auditors are key to ensuring the public's trust in their government is well founded and
not abused.

Advogado – Senado Federal – FGV - 2022
Read text I and answer the six questions that follow it.
Leia o texto I e responda as seis questões que o seguem.
Text I
The data harvested from our personal devices, along with our trail of electronic transactions and
data from other sources, now provides the foundation for some of the world’s largest companies.
[...] For the past two decades, the commercial use of personal data has grown in wild-west
fashion. But now, because of consumer mistrust, government actions, and competition for
customers, those days are quickly coming to an end.
For most of its existence, the data economy was structured around a “digital curtain” designed
to obscure the industry’s practices from lawmakers and the public. Data was considered
company property and a proprietary secret, even though the data originated from customers’
private behavior. That curtain has since been lifted and a convergence of consumer, government,
and market forces are now giving users more control over the data they generate. Instead of
serving as a resource that can be freely harvested, countries in every region of the world have
begun to treat personal data as an asset owned by individuals and held in trust by firms.
This will be a far better organizing principle for the data economy. Giving individuals more
control has the potential to curtail the sector’s worst excesses while generating a new wave of
customer-driven innovation, as customers begin to express what sort of personalization and
opportunity they want their data to enable. And while Adtech firms in particular will be hardest
hit, any firm with substantial troves of customer data will have to make sweeping changes to its
practices, particularly large firms such as financial institutions, healthcare firms, utilities, and
major manufacturers and retailers.
Leading firms are already adapting to the new reality as it unfolds. The key to this transition —
based upon our research on data and trust, and our experience working on this issue with a wide
variety of firms— is for companies to reorganize their data operations around the new
fundamental rules of consent, insight, and flow.
[...]
Federal lawmakers are moving to curtail the power of big tech. Meanwhile, in 2021 state
legislatures proposed or passed at least 27 online privacy bills regulating data markets and
protecting personal digital rights. Lawmakers from California to China are implementing
legislation that mirrors Europe’s GDPR, while the EU itself has turned its attention to regulating
the use of AI. Where once companies were always ahead of regulators, now they struggle to
keep up with compliance requirements across multiple jurisdictions.

LISTA DE QUESTÕES
Texto 1: Analista Legislativo - Analista de Relações Públicas - Senado Federal – FGV
As communications professionals, it’s very easy to get caught up in the hype and
excitement about all the new online communications tactics we have available to us today.
(A) wanton.
(B) wanting.
(C) wary.
(D) weary.
(E) worried.
02. When tools are viewed as “a silver bullet” (lines 4 and 5) this means they are as seen as being
able to

(C) I hope you soon find out about media professionals likes.
(D) Media professionals can get something like US$ 2,000.00.
(E) There is nothing I like about media and correlated studies.

Towing ships is a dynastic business, hard to establish and harder still to give up. It's built
on deep allegiance and cutthroat margins, and its inner workings are full of intrigue and
successionary drama: fistfights, lawsuits, power struggles, and disinheritances.
(From THE NEW YORKER, April 19, 2010)
09. According to lines 1 to 6, all the following issues are likely to be inherent in the tugboating
business, EXCEPT
12. According to lines 20 to 26, we apprehend that things finally get interesting when the land

(B) diverge
(C) run parallel to one another
(D) cross each other
(E) flow slowly

(A) the same amount of cargo is towed by as many tugboats as it was in the past
(B) the larger ships mean that more tugboats will be necessary to tow the same amount of cargo
(C) tugboats spend more and more time on sea
(D) tugboats take long hours to leave port
(E) a ship can take as much cargo as a truck

Put simply, auditors are key to ensuring the public's trust in their government is well-founded
and not abused.

Text I
The data harvested from our personal devices, along with our trail of electronic transactions and
data from other sources, now provides the foundation for some of the world’s largest companies.
