Introdução:
Esta unidade curricular proporciona aos alunos o contacto com um conjunto de conceitos que lhes permitirão
compreender e analisar a realidade microeconómica, fundamental para futuros gestores. Após uma abordagem
introdutória de terminologia específica, serão desenvolvidos temas fundamentais da teoria microeconómica,
analisar-se-á o funcionamento do mercado através do mecanismo da procura e da oferta, o comportamento dos
consumidores e dos produtores e a sua interação nos mercados, bem como as estruturas de mercado.
Introduction:
This course provides students with contact with a set of concepts that will enable them to understand and analyze
the microeconomic reality, essential for future managers. After an introductory approach to specific terminology,
fundamental themes of microeconomic theory will be developed, the functioning of the market will be analyzed
through the mechanism of demand and supply, the behavior of consumers and producers and their interaction in
the markets, as well as market structures.

Evidence of the syllabus coherence with the curricular unit’s intended learning outcomes:
The syllabus contents allow the fulfilment of the learning objectives as they problematise, contextualise and put
into perspective the most important subjects in the field of microeconomics. Thus, the contents related to the
Basic Principles of Economics (chapter 1) serve to achieve objective 1, concretely understanding the basic concepts
of economics and how its advantages in the behavior of economic agents; while the specific contents in chapter
2 - Demand, Supply and Elasticities allow to identify and understand the price mechanism and its role in the
allocation of resources (objective 2). In chapters 3 and 4 (Consumer Theory and Producer Theory) are contents

that allow the achievement of objective 3 - to interpret how consumers and producers determine their choices,
identifying their impact on well-being. Objective 4 is achieved with the study of the Theory of Costs (chapter 5).
Finally, in chapter 6, objective 6 is realized, distinguishing market structures.

Evidence of the coherence between the teaching methodologies and the intended learning outcomes:
On the whole, the prospective teaching methodologies fit the objectives of the curricular unit, insofar as they
emphasise the theoretical component, by stimulating the development of knowledge capable of integrating
theoretical and practical concepts; and the practical component through the stimulation of reflexivity and practical
applicability of concepts learned, through its application to the resolution of standard situations in the area of
Microeconomics, guaranteeing the development of autonomy in solving problems.
