recuperar a visão.

Shang Chunsong
The turn around of her life
Childhood

Shang Chunsong has a very interesting story. She was born

on the 18th of March 1996 in a poor city of China,
Changsha. She grew up in a very poor family so, because
of poor nutrition, she didn’t grow up like the other kids.
She looks like a 12 year old kid, but she is 22.
When she was young she had to cross over an entire
mountain each day in order to get her education. She and
her partially blind brother, Shang Lei, were forced to take
turns supporting each other through the arduous trips. In
the mornings, Shang Lei would carry his malnourished
sister and in the nights, under low-light conditions, she
would help him make their way back.
A life full of dreams
Her brother left school at 13 to support her in the
gymnastics life. She has worked hard to be the best and
her biggest dream was to earn enough money to cure
him.
After the 2013 Chinese National Games she bought a
house for her brother in Changsha after winning a
competition. She said it was for him when he got
married.
In her 1st competition she didn’t win any medal, but the
effort was worth it!
Senior Career:
Prizes Won

I bet she didn’t dream she would win so many prizes when
she started her career:

Shang Chunsong won in 2013 and 2014 two consecutive

silver medals. Her impressive performances at the 2014
Asian Games earned her four medals: team gold, all-around
silver, floor silver and balance beam bronze.
She became the Chinese national gymnastics champion in
2015.
Senior Career:
Prizes Won

In 2016 she was selected for the chinese olympic team . At

the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro she won a bronze
medal with the team. She was among the favorites to medal
on balance beam and floor exercise, but suffered a fever
during the olympics, hindering her performance ability on
her first days of competition.
In 2017 she won gold at Baku world Cup but after failing to
make the national team for the World Championship, Shang
announced her retirement from the sport in September.
