FORMA AFIRMATIVA
Com os Pronomes Pessoais I, You, We e They, o Presente Simples se forma com o verbo no infinitvo semTO. J com os
Pronomes Pessoais He, She e It, o Presente Simples formado com o verbo no infinitivosem TO e ao verbo
acrescentado a letra -s no fim. Observe a tabela abaixo:

- USOS
O Simple Present usado para expressar:

1. Fatos e situaes atuais:

Anthony lives in New York. (Antnio mora em Nova Iorque.)
My wife works in a hospital as a nurse. (Minha esposa trabalha como enfermeira em um hospital.)

2. Hbitos: Geralmente so empregados com advrbios de tempo como: always, often, usually, rarely, frequently,
sometimes, never, every day, on weekends, on Tuesdays, etc.
I go to the gym every day. (Vou academia todos os dias.)
She never watches tv. (Ela nunca assiste tv.)
He usually leaves the job at 6:00 p.m.
(Geralmente ele sai do trabalho s seis da tarde.)

3. Verdades Universais:
The sun goes down in the west. (O sol se pe no oeste.)
Birds fly. (Pssaros voam.)
The earth revolves around the sun.
(A terra gira ao redor do sol.)

4. Aes futuras relacionadas com horrio fixado.

My flight leaves at 9:00 p.m. (Meu vo sai s nove da noite.)
My parents arrive tonight. (Meus pais chegam esta noite.)

5. Fatos histricos, relatar acontecimentos, filmes, piadas, uma transmisso esportiva com
mais dramaticidade; o chamado "Presente Histrico". Nestes casos, os fatos que
ocorreram no passado so reproduzidos ou imaginados como se estivessem acontecendo no
momento presente.

6. Opinies, sentimentos, desejos, preferncias e gostos:
She likes vegetables. (Ela gosta de vegetais.)
I hope so. (Espero que sim.)

- FORMAO DO PRESENTE (SIMPLE PRESENT)

1. Na conjugao de alguns verbos, basta acrescentar a letra -s 3 pessoa do singular (He, She, It) para formar o
Presente Simples. Os outros pronomes, I, You, We e They formam a conjugao do Presente Simples com o verbo no
infinitvo sem TO e no recebem a letra -s ao final do verbo, como consta na tabela anteriormente apresentada. Veja
alguns exemplos:
She sings in a choir. (Ela canta num coral.)

OBSERVAO: Com pronomes indefinidos como somebody, nobody, everybody, nothing,

everything, usa-se o verbo na terceira pessoa:
Nobody likes you. (Ningum gosta de voc.)
Everything ends up some day. (Tudo acaba um dia.)
2. Com os verbos terminados em -ss, -sh, -ch, -x, -z e -o, acrescenta-se -es a eles para formar o
Presente Simples com a terceira pessoa do singular (He, She, It):
- Wash: She washes her hair every day. (Ela lava o cabelo todos os dias.)
- Kiss: The father kisses his children when they wake up. (O pai beija os filhos quando eles acordam.)
- Go: He goes to the park on weekends. (Ela vai ao parque nos finais de semana.)

3. Se os verbos terminarem em -y precedido de consoante, troca-se o -y por -i e acrescentase -es a eles para formar o Presente Simples com a terceira pessoa do singular (He, She, It):

Linda wants to buy a new car. She has an old car. Her old car is a white Honda. Linda wants

will give her a contract to sign. The contract will require her to pay $400 a month for seven

Frank is not an old man. He is only 61 years old. But he is dying. He is in the home for old
people. Nobody visits him. His wife doesn't visit him. She is already dead. She died six
months ago. She died in the street. She was crossing the street. A car ran over her. Frank
loves his wife. He got sick after she died. He never got better. The doctor says that nothing
is wrong with Frank's body. The doctor says that Frank wants to die. The doctor is right.
