Lolita: the novel by Vladimir Nabokov and the movie by Stanley Kubrick

Resumo
O presente artigo propõe-se a analisar a adaptação do romance Lolita (1955), de autoria do escritor
russoamericano Vladimir Nabokov, para filme homônimo (1962), dirigido por Stanley Kubrick. Pretende-se
explicitar as várias mudanças ocorridas na adaptação do roteiro cinematográfico em relação à obra
literária, e se a mudança de meio implicou em modificações significantes no que diz respeito à fidelidade
aos principais temas e às personagens do livro. Dessa forma, a análise se debruça sobre algumas das
características de cada meio e em como eles podem se relacionar de modo a manterem a similaridade
entre os dois produtos e ainda assim manterem seus traços e peculiaridades.

Abstract
The present paper intends to analyze the adaptation of the novel Lolita (1955), written by the Russian-
American writer Vladimir Nabokov, into film with same name (in 1962), directed by Stanley Kubrick. It
aims to display the several changes which occurred in the adaptation of the movie screenplay in relation to
the literary work, and whether the change of media implicates in meaningful modifications of the main
themes and characters of the book. Therefore the analysis discusses about some of the characteristics of
each media and how they can relate with each other in order to keep the similarity between the two
productions and still keep their traits and peculiarities.
