ABSTRACT - Seven isolates were obtained from typical lesions of angular spot
in cucumber and squash leaves obtained from different platations located in the
parish of Igarapé, MG. Isolates identify was confirmed through pathogenicity
and biochemical tests. Antibiograms indicated insensibility of all isolates to the
antibiotics bactitracin and lincomcin up to 1024µg/ml, to polymyxin B up to
256µg/ml and to antifungal cornpounds cycloheximide, captan, rose bengal and
nistatin up to 1024g/ml. The selective mediurn was thought out by adding the
afore mentioned antimicrobial substances to medium 523 of Kado & Heskett
(1970) as follows: bacitracin, captan, lincomycin, polymyxin B (200µg/ml) and
cycloheximide, nistatin and rose bengal (300µg/ml). The selective medium
totally suppressed the growth of several fungi and bacteria in pure cultures but
not the growth of P. syringae pv. lachrymans isolates. Moreover, it completely

associated to cucumber seeds. The repression index figured out for the
selective medium was smaller than 2%. Consequently, the selective medium
here developed can be used for detection and quantification of P. syringae pv.
