Preposições de tempo
Para se referir a um período no tempo, use as preposições "in," "at," and "on."
Use "in" quando estiver falando de partes do dia (manhã, tarde, noite), não de
horários específicos, e também quando estiver se referindo à meses, anos e estações do
ano (primavera/verão/outono/inverno).
He reads in the evening.
The weather is cold in December.
She was born in 1996.
We rake leaves in the fall.
Use "at" para horários determinados. Também use "at" junto à noon (meio-dia),
night (noite), and midnight (meia noite).
I go to work at 8:00.
He eats lunch at noon.
She often goes for a walk at night.
They go to bed at midnight.
Use "on" junto aos dias da semana.
I work on Saturdays.
He does laundry on Wednesdays.
Preposições de lugar
Para se referir a um lugar, use as preposições “in” ("em" - o ponto em si), “at” ("em"
- a vizinhança geral), “on” ("em" - a superfície) e “inside” ("dentro" - algo contido).
They will meet in the lunchroom.
She was waiting at the corner.
He left his phone on the bed.
Place the pen inside the drawer.
Para se referir a um objeto mais alto do que um ponto, use as preposições “over”
("sobre") e “above” ("acima"). Para se referir a um objeto abaixo de um ponto, use as
preposições “below” ("abaixo"), “beneath” ("abaixo"), “under” ("embaixo") e
“underneath” ("abaixo").
The bird flew over the house.
The plates were on the shelf above the cups.
Basements are dug below ground.
There is hard wood beneath the carpet.
The squirrel hid the nuts under a pile of leaves.
The cat is hiding underneath the box.
Preposições de localização
Para se referir a um local, use as preposições “in” ("em" uma área ou volume), “at”
("em" um ponto) e “on” ("em" uma superfície).
They live in the country. (an area)
She will find him at the library. (a point)
There is a lot of dirt on the window. (a surface)

Example: I would like to know where she comes from. ( “Gostaria de saber de onde ela
vem” - Termina com uma preposição, mas a frase é aceitável)
Excessivamente gramatical: I would like to know from where she comes.
(Gramaticalmente correta, mas extremamente formal. Ninguém mais fala desse jeito
atualmente)
No entanto, na redação acadêmica, você pode decidir que vale a pena revisar
suas frases para evitar terminar com uma preposição, a fim de manter uma voz
acadêmica mais formal.
Example: My research will focus on the community the students lived in. (Minha
pesquisa irá focar na comunidade onde os alunos residem)
Revision: My research will focus on the community in which the students lived.
Example: I like the people I am working with. (Gosto das pessoas com quem trabalho)
Revision: I like the people with whom I am working.
Example: She jumped off of the balance beam. (Ela saltou fora do balanço)
Revision: She jumped off the balance beam.
