Abstract
The review aimed to gather information about the cattle domestication and
the human-animal interaction, as well as their reflexes on the cattle
behavioral characteristics. We searched for relevant themes for the
understanding of domestication: concept, historical questions and their
impacts on the specie characteristics. It was discussed how current production
systems and human-animal interaction can affect the specie behavioral
characteristics and promote the worsening or improvement of their welfare
and productivity. It was observed that domestication and its motivation are
still not fully understood. Cattle have a wide range of complex and interactive
behavioral characteristic. Each individual has their behavioral derivatives,
reacting distinctly to the stimuli it receives. The origin of these specie and
individual characteristics is genetic, environmental, in situations and
experiences. The human, through the selective breeding, significantly affected
the productive and behavioral characteristics of the animal. In production
systems, several factors affect the behavior of cattle, since many restrictions
are imposed on them, mainly spatial. Positive or negative actions of the
handler determine the animal reaction.
De acordo com alguns autores (Boivin et al., 1994; Rushen et al., 1999;
