mensal bem escrita e lindamente elaborada.

Eu tinha treze anos e isso me assustou. 'TUP 92K' onde você está agora?
Qual você acha que é a motocicleta de produção mais bonita já construída? Isso é muito difícil. Apenas

Obviamente a legislação e o custo do combustível

Eu adoro fazer a revista.

Very interesting views. I disagree on the XZ550 "Vision", but I think Hugo is right on about the current
generation not being into bikes. I believe part of that is they have no real interest in actually working on
mechanical things or understanding what makes them function. Too bad. Classic Bike is a great
magazine too! Cool.

I'm with you on the XZ550 issue. Surely Yamaha has committed worse styling crimes than
that? The Virago and Drag Star bikes spring to mind...

Having briefly campaigned an XZ550 that 'ran', I can assure you they are vague, ugly,
and poorly designed. Worst motorcycle I have ever owned, in fact the only one I
didn't like and wasn't sad to see go.
It was a lemon, and no amount of sugar could make it lemonade

Well, I can't imagine actually "campaigning" one, but in 1982 they weren't a
bad running bike. Unfortunately Yamaha was married to the shaft drive
design and they made gearing changes impossible and made for a very
limited wheel selection on several models.
Styling wise, thats a personal taste issue. The fact that they had coolant
leaks and fried alternators didn't help, but they ran good.

I concur, the cruisers are way uglier in my opinoin and now that everything eighties
is back, they do not seem to be looking so bad!

I'm thinking the Ducati Apollo takes first place ugly bike so far ahead of second

Not all youngsters are like that! I'm 20 and have quite a lot of friends my age who ride
motorcycles, even stuff like the Yamaha RD250, SR500, BSA's and Guzzi's (I drive a modern
Suzuki). Most of us do our own maintenance as well.

I agree with BrunoC. I'm 24, and I built my first bike at ten years old with my
dad (a Dexon Daredevil that we bought dead from a garage sale) and I've
been hooked ever since. I've owned trail and enduro bikes since then and
have done my own engine rebuilds, suspension work etc. I currently own a
KTM 300 EXC two stroke and can't get enough of the engineering side of
motorcycles. I stayed up 'til 3am the other night reading the workshop

manual for my KTM, for no reason at all. And most of my friends are
similarly inclined. CARREGADO: ZERO ESTREIA NOVOS

you can blame the nanny state enforcers for the current generation not being into bikes, its
just too hard. I live in victoria, oz and its the nanny state of all nanny states...i did type a very
long rant but i deleted it because we all know the story...
doesnt like the xz550 but likes the GS? cool guy tho.

Two 18 lads came over and started talking about bikes at the local cafe the other night. They
were very polite, enthusiastic and very keen to pass their tests and buy a big bike. They asked
me if it was OK to talk to the bikers there at the cafe and take pictures. I said they should go
ahead and talk as much as they wanted. I'm sure all of us oldies would be happy to
encourage them.

Hugo's bang on about the kids not being into bikes like they used to be but it's encouraging to see a
post from Bruno stating otherwise (there's hope yet).
I buy Classic Bike quite often I always find plenty of good reading and useful tips, there's a lot of
collective experience in the team that put it together (can't imagine what their combined age is ;) ) Nice
photography and a sense of humour too.

Ironic as I m saying this over the internet but as far as I can see young folks general lack of interest is
down to them being holed up in their bedrooms Facebooking each other or engrossed in the latest
games console offering. At 39 my generation had the ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64 etc but only a few.
Most boys were building their Airfix kits, Scalectrix & the like, leading to other interests like bikes etc.
NIce to see Bruno interested but reckon sadly he's a dying breed...

Maybe the interview doesn't show it well enough - so many short answers - but HW is a really nice
bloke: I once wrote to him pointing out a few minor errors in his book 'The Ultimate Motorcycle Book'.
Then a year later I recieved an example of said book, along with a nice letter excusing the late reply.

Excellent magazine, about the only decent bike mag left on the shelves.
As far as younger folks getting into motorbikes i'd have to agree, though I (27) have friends who
ride, none save one service their own steeds or have any appreciation for the kind of creations we see
on bikeexif.
Having said that my young boy (only 10 months) joins me in the shed in his high chair and loves all the
filing, drilling, english wheeling, etc. Hopefully there is some petrol left for him to enjoy!

I'm young and into bikes and have been since I was 14. Three of my friends own bikes (Honda, Ducati,
Buell) and 3 others are looking to buy when they get the scratch.
Dotheton.com is riddled with young guys working on their old, new, and custom bikes.
I think the bottom line here is : Just because you don't see it, doesn't mean it ain't there.
If you think young people don't want bikes, ride bikes, or think bikes are cool, you're simply wrong. Ask
yourself how many young people you've actually talked to, hung out with, or interacted with in the last
10 years.
I didn't make my point very well, but that's life. Either way, the state of motorcycling is A-Okay. Stop
fretting.

I think Hugo is probably referring mostly to the UK. I've noticed from the commenters that the UK
generally has an older bunch of readers, whereas mainland Europe seems to have younger readers. I'm
not sure why this is.
When I was last in the UK, about a year ago, I also noticed that bikers in general seemed to be a bit
older than the ones I see daily around Sydney. So maybe the profile of motorcycling is ageing in the UK
more than elsewhere.

Things are changing Chris. There seems to be more learner riders than ever here in the UK.
Men and women, young and old. A very encouraging trend.
There is such a great range of fantastic machinery around now it would be such a shame if
we didn't have new blood to buy them up. You have to struggle hard to buy a bad bike now. It
wasn't that difficult in the eighties when the XZ550 was around, although there was a lot of
development going on!

Sorry Hugo, love the magazine, but the XZ550 was far from the ugliest bike of the 80's. Madura 700,
Virago 535, 83-84 GS550e with the bar mount fairing maybe? The XZ was just ahead of it's time (does
a mid sized, liquid cooled, 4 valve v-twin sport standard sound like fun? an NT or SV650 precursor?)
and just a few years ago the motor was turning respectable AMA flat track lap times at the tender age
of 25+...I liked the full-faired versions then and the naked ones actually look better now than they did
back when. JMHO...

Nice interview. Thank you to Chris for the focus on Classic Bike and HW. It is always an interesting
topic to discuss the future of motorcycling and the next generation's involvement. I sure do hope that
we can get more kids into riding old bikes. I'm not worried about enough them riding new ones, that
will happen to some extent without any trouble. fast, cheap, shiny bikes will always attract riders. But
getting people onto old bikes is difficult. Especially really old bikes. I've thought about how to
encourage new riders onto old bikes, but there are a lot of obstacles such as high cost, low availability,
the required knowledge of repairs & maintenance, etc. How do we solve that? Hopefully we can.

I'm glad to see the support for the Yamaha Vision. I, along with a respectable-sized community at
Ridersofvision.net are keeping the Vision alive. I'm a younger rider, 28 years old and love my '82 Vision
(10,000 original miles). Out riding today, I was more than pleased with the handling around twists and
turns and responsive horsepower. It was a terrible bike off the showroom floor, but in the right hands
it's strengths become very apparent. Aesthetically, not my favorite in design, but cool nonetheless.
