A Amazônia Legal é uma imensa faixa territorial
situada na porção norte do território nacional,
atingindo nove estados da Federação. Com base em
índices estruturais e conjunturais, o Governo brasileiro
reuniu áreas de idênticos problemas econômicos,
políticos e sociais, com o intuito de melhor planejar o
desenvolvimento socioeconômico, instituindo, assim,
o conceito de Amazônia Legal. Essa imensa área,
ainda dissociada do território nacional, apresenta
índices sociais, econômicos, demográficos e sanitários
que merecem atenção do Governo brasileiro, a fim

cerca de 59% do território brasileiro, com uma população

O centro de Instrução de Guerra na Selva
(CIGS) foi criado em 2 de março de 1964,
peloDecreto N° 53.649, tendo como seu
primeiro Comandante o então Major de
Artilharia Jorge
Teixeira de Oliveira, o TEIXEIRÃO.
Até junho de 1969, o CIGS foi subordinado
ao Grupamento de Elementos de Fronteira.
Em fevereiro de 1970, passou a ser subordinado
à Diretoria de Especialização e Extensão (DEE).
Em outubro de 1970, passou a ser designado
Centro de Operações na Selva e Ações de
Comandos (COSAC), com a missão de ministrar
cursos de Operações na Selva e de Ações de
Comandos. Em 1978, retornou a sua antiga
designação, deixando de ministrar o Curso de
Ações de Comandos. Em setembro de 1982, o
CIGS passou à subordinação do Comando Militar
daAmazônia, permanecendo vinculado
tecnicamente à Diretoria de Especialização e
Extensão(DEE), atual Diretoria de Educação
Técnica Militar (DETMil)O primeiro Curso de
Guerra na Selva funcionou no ano de 1966.
Os cursos eram ministrados em duas categorias,
uma para oficiais e outra para subtenentes
e sargentos. A partir de outubro de 1969,
passou a ser de três categorias: "A" para oficiais
superiores, "B" para capitães e tenentes e "C" para
subtenentes e sargentos.Devido ao trabalho
daqueles que ante cederam a atual geração,
este Centro tem o status e aresponsabilidade
de especializar o melhor combatente de selva

inovador. Tinha cor prata porque os cursos de oficiais e praças
eram idênticos, pois tinham o mesmo currículo. Herança dos

O Zoológico do CIGS surgiu em 1967 para atender as atividades
de ensino do Centro. Desde o princípio, funciona como uma ligação
entre a população amazonense e o Exército. Na década de 90, alinhado
com as legislações ambientais, foi ampliado e recebeu novas espécies
da fauna amazônica. Atualmente, o acervo é composto por cerca de 190
animais de 49 espécies, dentre aves, mamíferos e répteis, alguns
ameaçados de extinção. Possui, também, uma sala entomológica com
diversos insetos do bioma amazônico. É importante ressaltar que o CIGS
não realiza captura de animais selvagens, mas recebe, por
intermédio do Centro de Triagem de Animais Selvagens do Instituto
Brasileiro de Meio Ambiente e Recursos Renováveis, animais apreendidos
e incapacitados para a reintrodução no ambiente de origem. Diversos
trabalhos de pesquisa dentro da Medicina Veterinária e da Biologia são
desenvolvidos para compreender melhor o comportamento, a fisiologia, a
patologia e a reproducão dos animais da Amazônia.

O Curso de Operações na Selva, atividade finalística do CIGS,
tem como objetivo inserir o aluno num ambiente o mais próximo
possível do combate real, com desgaste físico e psicológico de forma
controlada. O COS é dividido didaticamente em três fases: Vida na
Selva, Técnicas Especiais e Operações. Na primeira fase, o
aluno aprende a sobreviver na selva com os meios que ela
oferece. Na segunda, são ministradas instruções de caráter
mais técnico, como módulos de tiro, orientação, explosivos
e destruições, emprego de aeronaves, dentre outras. Na
última fase, o aluno integra os conhecimentos adquiridos nas
anteriores, realiza planejamento, comanda ou participa como
integrante de pequenas frações em missões operacionais na selva.
e Jungle Operations Course, a final activity of CIGS, aims to
insert the student in an environment as close as possible to real
combat, with controlled physical and psychological wear and tear.
e COS is didactically divided into three phases: Life in the Jungle,
Special Techniques and Operations. In the first phase, the student
learns to survive in the jungle with the means that it o ers. In the
second, instructions of a more technical nature are given,
such as shooting modules, guidance, explosives and destruction,
use of aircra , among others. In the last phase, the student
integrates the knowledge acquired in the previous ones, performs
planning, commands or participates as a member of small fractions
in operational missions in the jungle.
