Nota:
O autor, Senhor de Santa-Aldegonda, foi um teólogo protestante (estudou com João Calvino em
Genebra e participou da Dieta de Worms), tradutor (escreveu uma das primeiras traduções da Bíblia
para o neerlandês), compositor (provavelmente o autor do texto de Het Wilhelmus, o hino nacional
holandês), político flamengo-holandês (foi um dos líderes da Guerra de Independência da Holanda) e
criptógrafo (o primeiro criptógrafo holandês).
A obra em referência, sem nenhum exemplar disponível à venda no mercado internacional, é fruto do
ardente desejo do autor, um importante nome da Reforma Protestante nos Países Baixos, em tornar a
Bíblia acessível ao povo. Não por outra razão, parte dela foi feita enquanto Philips van Marnix estava
preso. Trata-se de uma admirável tradução do livro de Salmos do hebraico para o neerlandês, em
estrofes, de forma rimada e, ainda, com partituras (uma para cada salmo), com o escopo de contribuir
nos cultos de adoração.

published in the year 1961 by Pageant Books, Inc. of Paterson, New Jersey and New York City, USA.
This is the first Gutenberg facsimile ever printed in the United States and only the second in the world.
The reproduction derives from Ansel Verlag edition which was based on the copy in the Roniglichen
Bibliothek in Berlin and the copy in the Standischen Landesbibliothek in Fulda, considered by authorities
to be the most beautifully illuminated of the 47 copies known to exist. The text pages have been printed
by lithography and the illuminated pages by sheet-fed gravure. The paper used is 100 per cent rag
content made especially for this book. The edition has been hand bound in two volumes and is limited to
1000 numbered sets, of which 996 are for sale.
