ADVERBS

Os advérbios são palavras usadas para modificar um verbo, um adjetivo, outro advérbio, ou
uma oração completa. São classificados de acordo com as idéias que expressam : manner
(maneira), place (lugar), time (tempo), frequency (freqüência), intensity (grau ou intensidade)

ADVÉRBIOS DE MODO

Os advérbios de modo respondem à pergunta how ? (como? De que maneira?) . São

geralmente colocados depois do objeto direto ou depois do verbo

Examples :

My parents speak Italian poorly. My grandparents, on the other hand, speak the language
correctly.

The student did the exercise carefully

My brother swims well.

The athlete runs quickly

RULES

- A maioria dos advérbios de modo é formada pelo acréscimo de –ly ao adjetivo :

quick – quickly beautiful – beautifully slow – slowly

- Os adjetivos terminados em y, mudam o y para i + ly

Happy – happily easy- easily angry- angrily

- Para os adjetivos terminados em e acrescentamos somente –ly

Brave – bravely

Exceção para true, whole, due e aqueles terminados em able/ible

Due- dully whole – wholly terrible – terribly true- truly

- Os adjetivos terminados em –ic, forma m o advérbio – ically

Romantic – romantically enthusiastic – enthusiastically

** O advérbio para good é well ( e não goodly) She is a good player. She plays well.
*** nem todas as palavras terminadas em –ly são advérbios. Algumas são adjetivos como
lonely, daily, silly, lovely, friendly. Estes adjetivos não têm seu advérbio correspondente em -ly
