This paper aims to present the relationship between LGBT + Affirmative Therapy,
human rights and intersectional analysis in order to demonstrate the relevance of the
combination of these three areas to address the study of LGBT + people, drawing
attention to consider other social markers besides the sexual affective orientation and
gender identity that composes their identities. Affirmative Therapy studies particularly
highlight these cutbacks in the experience of individuals, lacking a look that considers
horizontally other characteristics of the subjects' experiences that also influence their
existences. This is a relevant discussion that has not yet been made in the
theoretical and practical contributions of Affirmative Therapy, both nationally and
internationally. In the same way, a discussion about the respect and fulfillment of
human rights through the exercise of Affirmative Therapy has not been undertaken
until the present moment, which, although without explicit reflection, clearly values it.
In view of this, this work exists to bring to knowledge the present guidelines. The first
part consists of a contextualization of human rights related to sexual affective
orientation and gender identity, information that needs to be added and known to an
up-to-date theory and practice of Affirmative Therapy, followed by a correlation
between Affirmative Therapy and Human Rights itself so as to arrive at the
discussion on the addition of the intersectional gaze, which is subdivided into two
topics, the first to understand what is intersectionality and the second to know which
are the categories of analysis, which may consist of race, social class, origin,
generation, in total resulting in a deeper and qualified work proposal with LGBT +
people.

6 Tradução minha. Trecho original em inglês: “[...] there is nothing inherently wrong with being gay or
lesbian. What’s wrong is what is done to gay men and lesbians by a homophobic, homo-ignorant
society and heterosexist therapy. Living in a shame-based culture creates a variety of behavioral and
psychological disorders. GAT focuses on repairing the harm done to these clients, helping them move
from shame to pride.”.

posse de bens materiais e simbólicos, posições de poder e prestígio;
2010, p. 2-3).
(ZAMBONI, 2014, p. 15).
