FOREWORD
Gongratulations!Younow own the fastestSLR cameraon the
markettoday.With a maximum shutter speed of 1/4000sec.,
you can halt the most fleeting action literally in its tracks.
Complementedby a flash synchronization speedof 1/250sec.,
the fastest in 35mm SLR photography, the FE2 makes it easy
to fill in the shadows in strong daylight. These speeds are
made possible by Nikon's advanced camera technology,
employinglightweighthoneycomb-etched, vertical-traveling,
titaniumshuttercurtains.
In addition to aperture-priorityautomatic exposure from
1/4000sec. to 8 sec., the FE2 offers full manual exposure
control with accuracy ensured by digital quartz timing. The
cameraalso has a battery power-savingfeature:a light touch
of the lockable shutter release button activates the meter,
which then automaticallyswitchesoff 16secondslater.
Other exciting features include three bright interchangeable
focusing screens, automatic TTL flash photographywith a
Nikondedicatedflash unit, plus rapid film advanceup to 3.2
framesper secondwith a motor drive.
lic obtain the best results, keep this instructionmanual handy
until you've become thoroughlyfamiliar with the FE2'soper-
ation.A few minutes wisely investednow will pay off later in
manyyearsof rewardingphotographicexperiences.

TIPS ON BATTERY USE

. Keep batteriesaway from infantsand small children. In
case a battery is accidentallyswallowed,call a doctor
immediately as the materialinsidethe batteriescan cause
seriousoroblems.
r Batterypowerfallsoff in extremelycold temperatures and
this may causethe camera'sphotometric circuitto cease
operating. In this situation, use new batteriesand protect
the camerabody from the cold. Note that batterypower
will be recoveredas soon as the temperaturebecomes
normat.
.Shouldthe batterybe left in the batterychamberfor a long
period, insufficientcontact may occur due to battery
leakage. Thus,it is good practiceto periodically cleanthe
batteryandthe contactsectionin the batterychamberwith
a soft cloth. lf the batterychamberis contaminated with
a leakingbattery, removethe batteryat once and clean
the chamber.
r lf you'reusinga pairof batteries, changethemat the same
time; never mix new and old batteriesor batteriesof
differentbrands.
oWhen not usingthe camera for a long period, take bat-
teriesout andstorethemin a cool,dry place.
o Neverdisassemble batteriesor discardthemin a f ire.
.Always check batterypower beforethe shootingsession
becausebattery power can become exhaustedwithout
warning.lt is a good ideato havesparebatterieson hand
duringa lengthyshootingassignment.
o In normaluse,a battery'slifespanis aboutone year.The
batterypackedwith this camera, however,is for test our-
posesonlyso its lifespanmaybe shorterthanusual.
o Regardless of whetherthe camerais switchedoff or not,
the FE2 alwaysdischargesa smallamountof electricity,
becauseit incorporates a quartzoscillator
circuit.
