Explosion Formula > Basic Principles

Listed below are seven important keys to becoming an effective trainer.

Prayer. Every step of the discipling process should be bathed in prayer. Discipling is a
spiritual work and requires the presence of God's Spirit.

Keep it Small. Avoid large groups. The ideal is 2 or 3 members per leader (multiple
leaders are encouraged). Groups should not exceed 10 or 12 members

Personal Modeling. When team leaders fail to implement the content they present,
training quickly degenerates into a mere discussion group.

Focus on Training. Training involves the impartation of skills, not information. Review
the study quickly, and keep your focus on the practical suggestions, and prayer.

Call to Excellence. Team members rarely rise above the expectations of their leaders.
Hold members accountable and communicate confidence in their ultimate success.
Schedule make-up session with individuals who miss a class, or leave objectives undone.

Love for People. Invest time with team members outside regular meetings. Your impact
on each life hinges on the strength of your relationship with them.

Pastoral Support. The support of your pastor is vital. Keep him posted on your progress.
Encourage your team to pray for and support your pastor.

You will find many more suggestions for leading your team in the Leaders Manual and the week
by week Teaching Tips ahead. We encourage you to follow these instructions as closely as
possible!

Teachers Guide
Explosion Formula > Teaching Tips

The Explosion Formula booklet explores Biblical principles that are key to transforming a church
into a training center. It also help cultivate a healthy environment for spiritual growth in your
team. Take time to discuss the booklet thoroughly. Each class member should receive a copy of
this booklet one week in advance, and be encouraged to read it prior to your discussion.

Normally this booklet is used as part of our FAST certification track. Students should have
completed the Survival Kit and be about to start Basic Training. We suggest the following brief
outline below for your meeting.

Begin with prayer.

If you have previously completed the Survival Kit, ask how many can still quote their
five verses, and recite their ten keys. Remind them that discipleship is a lifelong
process, and that they will need to continue reviewing the things they have studied on a
regular (daily) basis. Remind them of memory key #5 and the verse it is drawn from—
Proverbs 4:4-5.

Next, explain that punctuality and regular attendance is an important part of their
training. Team members who miss a class discussion will need to meet briefly with a
team leader outside of class, to review the content of that booklet. They will not be
able to complete their certificate until those meetings are made up.

Begin working through the content of the Explosion Formula booklet, using questions to
draw out how well they grasped this material. Suggested discussion questions are
included in the next section. You may transition to these questions by saying something
like: "Did everyone have a chance to read this book? Let's take a moment to see how
much you remember from what you read . . ." Devote approximately 30 minutes to this
review.

If you are doing Basic Training next, review the commitment involved with that course
and distribute the first lesson. Point out the first week's objectives—noting that the
number of assigned memory verses has been increased to two per week. Note also that
the last page of the lesson (the illustration page) will not be filled in until the next
group meeting.

If you have not yet done so, give each person a FAST Binder to put their FAST lessons in.
Note there are cover sheets for each course in the Resource Library at FAST. Copy the
first page on white cardstock, punch holes in them, and distribute the appropriate tabs
for each section.

Close with prayer. Give various individuals the opportunity to pray and consecrate
themselves to the year's challenge!
