RESUMO
ABSTRACT
The effects of COVID-19 on the prevalence of childhood obesity are a major health challenge, causing
the health of the child population to deteriorate with changes in eating habits, resulting from the spread
of the virus and the adoption of measures such as closing trade and distancing Social. The study aims
to analyze the evidence on the characteristics of children in weight gain and adverse health effects in

the face of COVID-19, carried out through a literature review of academic works, contextualizing the
challenges for the healthy behaviors of these children. . Isolation led children to seek comfort,
practicality in unhealthy foods, increasing the rate of childhood obesity. The confinement measures
impacted eating behavior, physical activity and day-to-day activities, favoring weight gain and
increasing health risk in the face of a COVID-19 infection. Excess weight perceived in the pandemic is
an aggravating situation for the child population.

Com isso, demonstrou-se que o isolamento social impactou mais no peso corporal
das crianças do que nos adultos. Isso aconteceu em decorrência das maiores
exigências das atividades físicas diárias e as necessidades energéticas das
crianças. Na pandemia por COVID-19 as práticas foram reduzidas
significativamente. Além da redução das atividades físicas, as crianças
demonstraram sedentarismo, com mudanças de hábitos para jogos de videogames
e televisão. As adaptações das crianças fora da escola durante o isolamento social
imitaram o período de férias. Antes da pandemia da COVID-19, o período de férias
já era um atributo contribuinte para o aumento de peso das crianças, quando
comparado ao ano letivo (CHANG et al., 2021).
Para Hourani e colaboradores (2021), a idade é considerada como uma fonte
de heterogeneidade, pois crianças de 6 a 9 anos relataram ganho de peso de 2,3 kg,
sendo que crianças mais velhas acima de 9 anos tiveram um ganho de peso de
1,7kg no período do confinamento. Resultados semelhantes foram apontados, diante
do aumento do número do IMC em crianças menores de 10 anos (WAHL-
ALEXANDER; CAMIC, 2021).
Na maioria das vezes as políticas governamentais não retratam uma
avaliação adequada suficientemente dessas questões complexas. No Reino Unido
atualmente têm sido aplicados programas que monitoram a pesagem de crianças no
ensino fundamental. Tal esforço visa enfrentar a crise da obesidade infantil (NRE,
2020). Mesmo que a estratégia garanta dados mais representativos sobre a
tendência, ainda é preocupante que a estratégia possa levar a um foco indevido na
aparência física, podendo intensificar o bullying, além de piorar a saúde mental das
crianças que se encontram na obesidade. No plano do Reino Unido as informações
sobre a categoria de peso das crianças serão enviadas aos pais, para que seja
