 Informações gerais
Este Manual contém informações sobre os testes TOEFL ITP® Level 1, Level 2 e Speaking. Seu instrutor informará qual
desses testes você fará. Seu instrutor/professor poderá fornecer informações sobre qual dos testes melhor
atende suas necessidades. Os levels 1 e 2 são similares, você deve ler as descrições dos testes e os
procedimentos que devem ser seguidos durante o teste. Exemplos de questões práticas para qualquer um dos testes
podem ser encontrados online em www.ets.org/toefl_itp/test_preparation/sample_questions ou no Apêndice G. Os
exemplos das questões práticas são similares às questões reais do teste, mas variam em dificuldade.

As pontuações obtidas em uma administração institucional são relatadas apenas para a instituição que administra o
teste. Os alunos que precisam de pontuações do TOEFL para admissão em universidades e faculdades onde o inglês é
o meio de instrução devem fazer o teste TOEFL oficial. As pontuações do TOEFL ITP são válidas por dois anos a partir
da data do teste. Como a proficiência no idioma pode mudar consideravelmente em um período de tempo
relativamente curto, as pontuações com mais de dois anos não podem ser verificadas.

Sobre os testes TOEFL ITP

Os testes TOEFL ITP estão disponíveis em papel e em formato digital. Os testes usam conteúdo acadêmico e social para
avaliar a proficiência em inglês de falantes não nativos de inglês.
Composto por questões de múltipla escolha, os testes TOEFL ITP Nível 1 e TOEFL ITP Nível 2 avaliam habilidades em 3
áreas:
• A Compreensão Auditiva mede a capacidade de compreender o inglês falado conforme é usado em faculdades e
universidades.
• Estrutura e Expressão Escrita mede o reconhecimento de pontos estruturais e gramaticais selecionados no padrão
escrito inglês.
• Compreensão de Leitura mede a capacidade de ler e compreender material de leitura acadêmica escrito em inglês.

NOTA: O teste pode incluir perguntas sem peso para sua pontuação. Essas perguntas permitem que a ETS avalie e compare as
pontuações dos testes entre administrações ou novas perguntas e ajudam a ETS a determinar como essas perguntas funcionam
em condições reais de teste.

O teste TOEFL ITP Speaking avalia as habilidades necessárias para falar inglês em situações cotidianas, bem como
algumas situações básicas do campus e acadêmicas. É composto por 4 exercícios:
• 1 tarefa de leitura em voz alta
• 2 tarefas de fala independentes
• 1 tarefa de fala integrada

NOTA: Atualmente, não há uma opção “Somente Speaking” e não há um certificado diploma disponível no momento para
o teste de Speaking.

Preparação para o Teste

Os testes TOEFL ITP não são baseados no conteúdo de nenhum curso de inglês específico, mas sim em sua proficiência
no idioma inglês – sua capacidade geral de usar o inglês. A melhoria na proficiência pode levar algum tempo e
geralmente é alcançada através de uma combinação de prática e estudo.
Os testes não “aprovam/reprovam”. O teste foi projetado para ser uma ferramenta de medição ao longo do tempo.
Antes do Teste
Você pode fazer muitas coisas para se preparar para o teste e melhorar sua proficiência em inglês:
• Familiarize-se com o formato e os requisitos do teste. Se você estiver fazendo o teste em papel, revise cuidadosamente o
seguinte:
 Como Preencher o Formulário de inscrição – Apêndice A. Se o seu instrutor exigir que este formulário seja
preenchido, faça-o de acordo com as instruções fornecidas. Após preencher o formulário, coloque-o em local
seguro; você vai precisar dele quando fizer o teste. Antes do início do teste, você copiará as informações do
formulário de admissão na folha de respostas.
 Preenchimento da Folha de Respostas – Apêndice B. Familiarize-se com o formato do teste e saiba como marcar
suas respostas na folha de respostas. Você pode então concentrar sua atenção nas próprias perguntas do teste.

Se você estiver fazendo o teste online em casa, certifique-se de ter recebido uma cópia do Manual de Requisitos do
teste remoto.
• Mergulhe no idioma com a maior frequência possível e de todas as maneiras possíveis. Leia livros didáticos ou outros
materiais que abranjam uma variedade de áreas temáticas (por exemplo, ciências, ciências sociais, artes, negócios) e
sejam escritos em estilo acadêmico. Assistir a filmes e televisão e ouvir rádio oferecem excelentes oportunidades para
desenvolver suas habilidades de ouvir e falar.
• TOEFL ITP Practice Tests: Prepare-se para o teste TOEFL ITP com exercícios reais da ETS. O livro contém dois simulados
completos do TOEFL ITP, um CD-ROM com áudio, gabaritos, informações de pontuação, dicas de estudo e estratégias para
fazer o teste estão disponíveis.
• Official Guide to the TOEFL ITP® Test: Este Guia Oficial foi escrito especificamente para ajudar os alunos a se prepararem
para o teste TOEFL ITP e inclui:
 Uma descrição de todos os tipos de perguntas no teste
 Exercícios e respostas com explicações
 Dois simulados completos
 Estratégias úteis para melhorar as habilidades de inglês acadêmico
 Um CD-ROM para a seção de listening (compatível com MAC®)

Durante o Teste
• Trabalhe com rapidez e cuidado.
• Não gaste muito tempo em uma única pergunta.
• Tente responder a todas as perguntas da melhor maneira possível.
• Preste muita atenção ao tempo durante cada seção.
 Na seção de Leitura você deve se policiar, então trabalhe rápido e se você não souber a resposta a uma
pergunta, volte a ela mais tarde.
 Na seção Speaking, você não poderá voltar a uma pergunta depois de atingir o limite de tempo para
cada tarefa.
• Escolha apenas uma resposta para cada pergunta. Se você escolher mais de uma resposta, essa pergunta será
considerada como errada—mesmo que uma das respostas que você escolheu esteja correta.
• Sua pontuação será baseada no número de perguntas que você responder corretamente. Não há penalidade para chutes.
• Se você estiver fazendo o teste de Speaking, você deve demonstrar sua capacidade de falar sobre uma variedade de tópicos,
certifique-se de falar de forma clara e coerente para gravar suas respostas às quatro tarefas.
• Você tem permissão para fazer anotações nas seções de Listening e Speaking apenas na modalidade digital, realizada no
centro aplicador, no papel para rascunho que ele lhe entregar e não pode usar seu próprio papel de rascunho.

O que levar para realizar o Teste?
Testes presenciais
• Formulário de inscrição. Se o seu instrutor exigir um formulário de admissão, preencha o formulário localizado na
contracapa deste manual e traga-o com você no dia do seu teste. Antes do início do teste, você copiará as informações
do formulário de admissão na folha de respostas. Consulte “Como preencher seu formulário de admissão” no Apêndice A
para obter instruções sobre como preencher o formulário.
• Documento de Identificação. Você deve apresentar um documento de identificação original impresso para fazer o
teste.
• Lápis e Borracha. Você deve levar vários lápis de grafite afiados, médios macios (Nº 2 ou HB), pretos. Você não pode
usar caneta, lápis com grafite colorido ou lápis de grafite líquido para marcar sua folha de respostas. Você também
precisará de uma borracha de boa qualidade que apague completamente quaisquer marcas não intencionais que você
fizer na folha de respostas. Lápis e borrachas não serão fornecidos pelo supervisor de teste.

Testes online
• Documento de Identificação. Você deve apresentar um documento de identificação original impresso para fazer o
teste.
• Equipamento compatível. Você precisará garantir que seu(s) dispositivo(s) atenda(m) aos requisitos mínimos do
sistema. Consulte o Manual de Requisitos de Procedimentos
NOTA: Fone de ouvido com fio e microfone é necessário para o Teste.

Procedimentos e regulamentos do teste

Os seguintes procedimentos e regulamentos se aplicam durante toda a sessão de teste:
• Vista-se para se adaptar confortavelmente a qualquer temperatura ambiente.
• Exceto aplicadores autorizados pela ETS, ninguém mais é permitido na sala de teste enquanto o teste estiver em
andamento.
• Apresentar documentos de identificação válidos e aceitáveis (consulte a Seção “Identificação”) é obrigação do candidato.
• Além da identificação, itens pessoais não são permitidos na sala de testes. Isso inclui telefones celulares, alimentos ou
bebidas, ou qualquer dispositivo eletrônico. Antes do teste, você receberá instruções do aplicador sobre onde guardar seus
itens pessoais. Você não terá acesso aos seus itens durante o teste ou durante os intervalos.
• Não há pausa programada durante o teste. No presencial você deve ter a permissão do aplicador para sair da sala de
testes, porém, qualquer tempo perdido não pode ser compensado.
• Nas modalidades remota e digital não é permitido se afastar do computador em hipótese nenhuma.
Testes presenciais:
• Os centros aplicadores não assumem responsabilidade pelos pertences pessoais dos examinandos.
• O aplicador lhe atribuirá um assento.
• Nenhum candidato será admitido após a distribuição dos materiais de teste.
• Rascunho (não fornecido pelo fiscal) não é permitido na sala de testes.

 • Você receberá os materiais apropriados e/ou equipamentos compatíveis para seus testes.

• Você receberá papel de rascunho para anotações.

• Se você receber um livro de teste, você também pode fazer anotações nas áreas em branco do livro de teste durante as
partes de escuta do teste, mas não nas folhas de respostas. Na conclusão do teste, você deverá devolver seu livro de teste
e folha de respostas ao supervisor.

• As instruções sobre como preencher sua folha de respostas podem ser encontradas no Apêndice A.

Dispensa da aplicação - Prova cancelada

O aplicador está autorizado a dispensá-lo da sessão de teste e suas pontuações podem ser canceladas devido a
violações como, entre outras, as seguintes:
• Tentar fazer o teste para outra pessoa ou pedir para outra pessoa fazer o teste para você
• Dar ou receber assistência durante o teste
• Não seguir as instruções dadas pelo aplicador
• Ler ou trabalhar em uma seção do teste durante o tempo permitido para outra, ou continuar a trabalhar após o término
do tempo de uma seção
• Levar dicionários, outros livros, anotações ou dispositivos de gravação ou fotográficos para a sala de testes
• Criar uma perturbação ou se comportando de forma inadequada
• Copiar perguntas ou respostas de teste ou tentar obter material de teste de qualquer tipo
• Trapaça de qualquer outra forma
O Programa TOEFL aceitará quaisquer decisões ou recomendações feitas pelo supervisor do teste em relação ao
comportamento inaceitável dos participantes do teste.

Identificação
Os participantes do teste podem ser obrigados a apresentar uma identificação válida e aceitável. É sua responsabilidade
garantir que seus documentos de identificação estejam atualizados e disponíveis no dia do teste.
Ao apresentar seus documentos de identidade são apresentados, eles devem ser examinados cuidadosamente pelo
funcionário responsável pela admissão dos examinandos.

Requisitos de Identificação
Os documentos de identificação aceitáveis variam, no entanto, devem atender os seguintes requisitos:
• Ser um documento original; documentos fotocopiados não são aceitos
• Ser uma identidade física; uma identificação eletrônica emitida para telefone celular ou qualquer outro dispositivo
eletrônico não é aceitável
• Ser válido; documentos vencidos (com datas de vencimento que já passaram) não são aceitos
• Apresentar o nome completo do participante do teste
• Mostrar uma fotografia recente que corresponda claramente ao candidato
• Incluir a assinatura do participante do teste

Documentos de identificação aceitos
Os seguintes documentos de identificação são aceitos dentro do país de cidadania do candidato:
• Passaporte com fotografia e assinatura
• Identificação nacional com fotografia e assinatura
• Carteira de habilitação com foto e assinatura
• Carteira de identidade estadual ou municipal com fotografia e assinatura
• Identificação militar com fotografia e assinatura

Documentos de identificação adicionais aceitos

• Você pode ser solicitado a fornecer uma identidade complementar além da sua identidade principal caso seu documento
de identificação principal for aceitável, mas não incluir seu nome completo, fotografia ou assinatura.
• Documentos de identificação adicionais não podem ser utilizados para resolver discrepâncias de nomes. O nome no
documento principal deve corresponder exatamente ao nome que você usou quando se registrou, excluindo acentos
e espaços.
• Identidade emitida pelo governo, incluindo, mas não se limitando a, aqueles listados em Documentos de identificação
primários aceitáveis
• Carteira de estudante com foto e assinatura

Documentos não aceitos

Os seguintes documentos não são aceitos como documento de identidade principal ou complementar em nenhuma
circunstância:
• Qualquer documento fotocopiado ou vencido
• Qualquer documento que não corresponda exatamente ao nome que você usou quando se registrou
• Carteira de motorista internacional
• Carteira de estudante internacional
• Cartão de crédito/débito de qualquer tipo
• Carta ou documento preparado por tabelião (registrado)
• Certidão de nascimento
• Cartão de Segurança Social
• Crachá de trabalho
• Qualquer document temporário
• Identificação diplomática, consular ou embaixada

 Resultados
A instituição onde você faz o teste receberá suas notas em uma lista contendo os nomes e as notas de todos que fizeram
o teste na instituição ao mesmo tempo que você. A instituição também receberá uma cópia do relatório de pontuação de
cada participante do teste e é responsável por fornecer a você sua cópia pessoal do relatório de pontuação.

As pontuações obtidas em uma administração institucional são relatadas apenas para a instituição que administra o
teste. Os alunos que precisam de pontuações do TOEFL para admissão em universidades e faculdades onde o inglês é
o meio de instrução devem fazer o teste TOEFL oficial. As pontuações do TOEFL ITP são válidas por dois anos a partir
da data do teste. Como a proficiência no idioma pode mudar consideravelmente em um período de tempo
relativamente curto, as pontuações com mais de dois anos não podem ser verificadas.

Solicitação para cancelamento de pontuações

Se você deseja cancelar suas pontuações, pode solicitar ao aplicador que cancele a pontuação somente se você tiver feito a
versão em papel do teste. Se você fizer tal solicitação, caberá à instituição administradora acatar.

O aplicador reserva-se o direito de solicitar que a ETS não corrija o teste de um participante que não seguir as instruções
ou se o aplicador suspeitar que o participante do teste trapaceou. Nenhuma pontuação será registrada para o participante
do teste cancelado.

Cancelamento de pontuação pelo Aplicador

Após a administração do teste, a ETS reserva-se o direito de cancelar as pontuações se houver qualquer motivo para
questionar sua validade. Nenhuma pontuação será registrada para o participante do teste cancelado.

Entenda sua pontuação

As informações nesta seção o ajudarão a entender suas pontuações. Por isto, você deve guardar este Manual e
consultá-lo quando precisar.

Como suas pontuações são realizadas

Relatório de Pontuação de Nível 1 e Nível 2: O relatório de pontuação para TOEFL ITP Nível 1 e Nível 2 inclui
pontuações por seção e uma pontuação total. Cada resposta correta conta igualmente para a pontuação dessa seção. Não
há penalidade para respostas erradas. O número total de respostas corretas é chamado de “pontuação bruta”.
(OBSERVAÇÃO: algumas das perguntas do teste podem não contar para a seção ou pontuações totais.)
A pontuação bruta de cada seção é convertida por meios estatísticos em um número em uma escala. As pontuações da
seção TOEFL ITP são registradas como pontuações escalonadas que variam de 31 a 68; as pontuações totais são registradas
em uma escala de 310 a 677. Como o teste de Nível 2 contém perguntas menos difíceis do que o teste de Nível 1 e por ser
mais curto, ele fornece uma medição eficaz na faixa de pontuação de 20 a 50 para cada seção e pontuação de 200 a 500
para a pontuação total. Para o Nível 2, 50 e 500 são as pontuações máximas que podem ser obtidas. As pontuações em
escala são aquelas que aparecem nos relatórios de pontuação.
A pontuação escalonada para cada seção é simplesmente uma indicação do desempenho do candidato nessa seção. Não é
o número nem a porcentagem de perguntas respondidas corretamente.

O processo usado para converter suas pontuações brutas em pontuações escalonadas é chamado de “equação de
pontuação”. A equiparação de pontuação garante que as pontuações dos testes sejam iguais para pessoas de proficiência
igual, independentemente do nível de dificuldade do teste específico realizado. As pontuações escalonadas são
equiparadas por métodos baseados na teoria de resposta ao item.
Para obter a pontuação total, some as pontuações em escala de cada seção e multiplique por dez terços. O exemplo
mostra como as três pontuações de seção em escala são usadas para obter a pontuação total.

As pontuações dos testes não podem ser perfeitamente precisas. A pontuação de uma pessoa pode variar de uma
aplicação de teste para outra, mesmo quando não há mudança significativa de proficiência da pessoa.
Relatório de Speaking: O relatório de pontuação para o teste TOEFL ITP Speaking é fornecido separado dos
testes TOEFL ITP Nível 1 e Nível 2. A pontuação de Speaking não é registrada como uma subpontuação do
teste de Nível 1/Nível 2. É relatado como uma pontuação total para o teste de Speaking.

Pontuações Obtidas em Diferentes Edições do Teste

Embora todos os esforços sejam feitos para manter o mesmo nível de dificuldade de cada edição do teste, pequenas
diferenças na dificuldade acontecem. No entanto, o método de pontuação do teste leva em consideração até mesmo essas
pequenas diferenças. Por exemplo, uma pontuação total de 500 em uma edição do teste representa o mesmo nível de
proficiência em inglês—conforme medido pelo teste—que uma pontuação de 500 em outra edição.

Pontuação aceitas para as instituições

Cada instituição determina por si mesma quais pontuações, ou faixas de pontuações, são aceitáveis. Uma pontuação
aceitável depende inteiramente dos requisitos da instituição e varia de instituição para instituição, dependendo de
fatores como área de estudo e nível de estudo. Não há pontuações específicas de aprovação ou reprovação definidas
pela ETS para os testes TOEFL ITP.
Se você tiver dúvidas sobre como suas pontuações foram interpretadas, entre em contato com a instituição que
administrou o teste.

Políticas e Diretrizes para o Uso das Pontuações do Teste TOEFL ITP
Introdução
Estas diretrizes foram elaboradas para fornecer informações sobre os usos apropriados das pontuações do teste TOEFL
ITP. Eles têm como objetivo proteger os participantes do teste de decisões injustas que podem resultar do uso inapropriado
das pontuações. O cumprimento das orientações é importante.
O Programa TOEFL ITP e seus associados da ETS TOEFL ITP têm a obrigação de informar os usuários sobre os usos
apropriados das pontuações do teste TOEFL ITP e de identificar e tentar corrigir casos de uso indevido.
Para esse fim, as seguintes políticas e diretrizes estão disponíveis para todos os participantes, instituições e organizações
do teste TOEFL ITP que recebem as pontuações do teste TOEFL ITP.

Políticas
Em reconhecimento à sua obrigação de garantir o uso adequado das pontuações do teste TOEFL ITP, o Programa TOEFL
ITP e seus associados locais do ETS TOEFL ITP desenvolveram políticas destinadas a disponibilizar relatórios de

Usos apropriados
Com base no design do teste e nas evidências de validade coletadas até o momento, as pontuações do teste TOEFL ITP são

em inglês acadêmico;
2. Nivelamento para programas intensivos de ensino de língua inglesa que exigem proficiência em inglês
acadêmico em cursos de graduação ou pós-graduação;
3. Monitoramento do progresso em programas de língua inglesa com ênfase em proficiência em inglês
acadêmico;
4. Ingresso em programas de graduação através de caminhos específicos para uma instituição;
5. Conclusão de programas de ensino de língua inglesa, demonstrando proficiência em compreensão auditiva
e em leitura em língua inglesa;
6. Desenvolvimento de habilidades e preparação para o teste TOEFL iBT;
7. Ingresso, em programas de curta duração de nível de graduação ou não em programas de colaboração
internacional;
8. Ingresso em programas institucionais de graduação para uso interno.

Perguntas do teste
Especialistas em idiomas preparam as perguntas do teste. Esses especialistas seguem procedimentos cuidadosos e
padronizados desenvolvidos para garantir que todo o material de teste seja de alta qualidade. Cada pergunta é revisada
por vários membros da equipe do ETS. O Comitê de Examinadores do TOEFL, um grupo independente de profissionais
nas áreas de lingüística, teste de idiomas e ensino de idiomas membros do TOEFL Board of Trustees, responsável pelo
conteúdo do teste.
Após as perguntas do teste terem sido minuciosamente revisadas, elas são selecionadas, agrupadas e testadas. Os testes
são então revisados de acordo com os procedimentos estabelecidos do Programa ETS e TOEFL para garantir que todas
as versões possíveis dos testes estejam livres de viés cultural. As análises estatísticas de perguntas isoladas garantem

Caso seja solicitado pela instituição onde fez a inscrição, remova o formulário de inscrição (contra-capa) deste Manual e
preencha-o de acordo com as instruções a seguir.
A. Se a instituição atribuir a você um número de aluno, insira o número nas caixas no canto superior esquerdo do formulário.
B. Inclua o local do teste, a data e o horário do teste nos espaços apropriados. Marque também o nível do teste que você
fará.
C. Na área marcada com NOME, complete seu nome. Usando uma caixa para cada letra, complete primeiro o sobrenome.
Deixe uma caixa em branco e inclua seu primeiro nome. Deixe a próxima caixa em branco e, em seguida, quantas letras do
seu nome do meio houver espaço. Seu NOME em seu Formulário de Admissão deve corresponder exatamente à sua
identificação.
D. Na área marcada como DATA DE NASCIMENTO, coloque um número em cada caixa. Por exemplo, se sua data de nascimento

Respostas às perguntas: Você marcará suas respostas às perguntas do teste nas áreas identificadas como Seção 1, Seção 2 e Seção 3 na
folha de respostas. Cada linha de quatro círculos corresponde às quatro opções de resposta para cada pergunta; apenas uma das opções
de resposta está correta. Você não usará todos os espaços de resposta de resposta.
