Manifestações Culturais do Estado de Maranhão

A construção de nosso país, tão rica em cultura e diversidade, não seria a mesma sem
a história e cultura do Maranhão. Um dos nove estados do Nordeste, tem população
formada por negros, europeus, sírio-libaneses e migrantes de outras partes do Brasil,
resultando na incrível diversidade que, é claro, é fortemente representada nas tradições
maranhenses. Como não poderia deixar de ser, as matrizes de toda essa herança da
miscigenação encontram-se nas 6 mais animadas festas típicas do Maranhão.
O bumba meu boi e seus sotaques patrimoniais é apenas um dos exemplos
encontrados na rica cultura maranhense. O caldeirão de tradições do estado está na
religiosidade da Festa do Divino, na alegria do Carnaval e na energia do tambor de mina. Vê-
se na fé dos Pastores e nas cores da Festa de São João. As vielas e ruas do centro histórico da
capital, São Luís, ficam pequenas em dia de festa. Os Lençóis competem sua beleza com o
brilho das tantas celebrações que compõem o calendário festivo do Maranhão. A dança do
bumba meu boi, chamada também de folguedo. Uma curiosidade é que o termo “bumba” seria
uma onomatopeia, em referência ao suposto barulho de uma batida do chifre do boi em algo.

Cultural Manifestations of the State of Maranhão

The construction of our country, so rich in culture and diversity, would not be the same
without the history and culture of Maranhão. One of the nine states in the Northeast, it has a

do Divino, in the joy of Carnival and in the energy of the tambor de mina. It is seen in the faith
of the Shepherds and in the colors of the Feast of Saint John. The alleys and streets of the
historic center of the capital, São Luís, are small on festive days. Lençóis competes its beauty
with the brilliance of the many celebrations that make up the festive calendar of Maranhão. The
dance of bumba meu boi, also called revelry. A curiosity is that the term “bass drum” would be
an onomatopoeia, in reference to the clear noise of the ox’s horn hitting something.
