The history of science and research is long and complex,
dating back to ancient times. Early scientists and
researchers used to explore and try to understand the
world around them, and they made significant progress
in areas such as astronomy, mathematics, and medicine.
Today, science and research are more important than
ever. Scientists work to solve some of the world's most
pressing problems, such as climate change, diseases, and
hunger.

Used to + infinitive
Used to é uma expressão formada pelo verbo “use” (–ed) e
pela preposição “to”. É utilizada para fazer referência a
ações que ocorreram no passado e que não acontecem
mais no presente. Veja:

“I used to consult many books in the library during my

research.”
(Eu costumava consultar muitos livros na biblioteca
durante minha pesquisa.)

Na forma afirmativa, a sua estrutura básica de utilização
é: sujeito + used to + verbo principal na forma-base +
complemento.
“I used to read the newspaper.”
Além disso, esse tipo de colocação pode vir acompanhado
de uma segunda oração no presente, para esclarecer o
motivo de a ação não acontecer mais. Veja:

on the internet.”
