RESUMO
This article titled, The Biological Bases of Fear: A Systematic Review of the Literature
discusses the biological processes systematized within the limbic system, discussed and
analyzed by the Human Physiology in view of the sensitive constitution of emotion, such as
fear. Has aimed to survey the literature on the biological basis of fear, taking into account its
anatomical, physiological and neurobiological. This study characterized here is a qualitative,
descriptive and exploratory. The procedures used for this research consisted of analysis of
articles published in the databases of Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), the
Virtual Health Library (VHL) and The Cochrane Library, as well as books, dissertations and
theses. The analysis of the data was from critical reflections on the material obtained and
preparation of summaries related to the theme. Regarding biological bases, fear is classified,
this systematic review as an emotional state that may present as strands, anxiety,
apprehension, nervousness, concern, consternation, caution, compunction, restlessness, fear,
fright and terror and how psychopathology, still characterized as phobia and panic. In this
sense, it can be concluded that psychology has gained more ground in studies on the
biological bases of fear in that it seeks to contribute to investigative spaces for the unveiling
of the same, however, for reasons of reduced studies in psychology also limit ourselves to the
development of physiology, neurology and the increasing evolution of Psychophysiological
studies, thus significantly discuss in conducting a more specific etiology, possibilities for
interventions in specific cases and prevent occurrences.
