verbs - de níveis avançados. Nesse primeiro
volume você aprenderá os nomes, como falar
(utilizando as suas respectivas fonéticas), utilizar
(através dos exemplos, e seus significados. E mais,
você ainda poderá colocar em prática os seus
estudos, pois nas páginas finais do livro há
exercícios para serem feitos. Mas fique tranquilo,
há também uma página "Answers-key", lá você
poderá conferir suas respostas - só não vale dar
aquela olhadinha sem antes tentar hein!

Sobre o autor

Hey! What's up?

Me chamo Felipe, tenho 20 anos, nasci em São


Paulo - sim, nessa grande capital, e desde sempre
amei linguagens.
Aos 13 anos comecei um curso de inglês numa
escola de idiomas e, há um ano tive o privilégio de
trabalhar na mesma - tá sendo uma experiência
incrível trabalhar com os professores que me
ensinaram, e hoje são meus colegas de trabalho –
agradeço a Deus primeiramente, e aos meus
colegas de trabalho, que foram meus professores,
pelo conhecimento que me proporcionaram.
Atualmente estou cursando Letras e Direito - eu
sei, são áreas bem diferentes. Minha maior paixão
sempre foi por Direito, descobri que gostava do
assunto
aos meus 10 anos assistindo aos conteúdos da
câmara dos deputados, ALESP e etc.

Nos meus aniversários, quando meus pais me


perguntavam o que eu queria de presente, eu
sempre pedia livros de assuntos específicos
referentes ao Direito.
Enfim, os anos foram passando e a paixão
aumentando. Ao concluir o curso de inglês, o qual
durante o aprendizado eu me destacava entre os
alunos, e sempre era notados
pelos professores, me interessei pela língua
inglesa.
Nos últimos meses para finalizar o curso, fui
abordado pela diretora da escola, e ela me disse
que um dia eu seria professor da escola.
Terminei o curso, prestei o FCE, fiz uma prova
para professores, não consegui passar de
primeira, mas, pude tentar outra vez depois de 6
meses. Então, consegui! Fiz treinamentos, que
foram muito legais e desafiadores.
Aos 17 anos entrei na faculdade para cursar
Direito, e aos 19, comecei outra faculdade para
letras.

Hoje sou super apaixonado por inglês, continuo


aprendendo muito, e meus alunos são demais.
Nesse período eu comecei a montar um
documento para estudos para mim (eu ainda era
aluno da escola), eu não tinha a intenção de
lançar um livro com esse conteúdo. De repente
surgiu essa ideia. E aqui está. Um pequeno livro,
de uma coleção (vem mais por aí). Espero que
aproveite e, que tire o máximo de conhecimento
possível.

Definition: to adhere to and follow the
instructions or commands presented by
someone in a position of authority.

Examples:

• The teacher said that, if we did not abide


by her rules, we would be asked to leave the
classroom.
• He received a fail grade for his essay
because he had not abided by the structure
and formatting requirements that were
given to students in the instruction brief.

Definition: to explain the causes for something
that has happened.

Examples:

• The girl’s father was not happy when he


received her telephone bill, because it was
so high. He asked her to account for the
numerous phone calls that she had made to
her school friends whom she saw during her
vacation.
• When it was discovered that the books was
missing, the student was asked to account
for his whereabouts1 that day.

3. /ækt/ ACT ON sth


Definition: to expand or progress sth (usually
an idea).

Examples:
• The publishers really loved the author’s
story ideas and encouraged him to act on
them quickly before another writer thought
of the same idea.

• The investigators acted on the anonymous


tip that they received about the robbery.

Definition: to communicate information, ideas
and /or emotions (particularly on a stage) by
performing an action or gesture associated with
the idea.

Examples:

• Not being able to speak a country’s


language can make communication
difficult for tourists, so it is common for
many travellers to act out their questions
by using gestures to communicate with the
local people.
• The boss advised employees to act their
request out if they didn’t know the words to
say during their speech.

Definition: to behave poorly and often
immaturely generally with the aim of getting
attention (mostly used for children and teens).
Synonym: act out.

Examples:

• Joana doesn’t get a lot of attention from her


parents because they are so busy, so she
tends to act up in class because she wants
to be noticed by others.
• My little brother always cries and acts up
when he doesn’t get what he wants.

Definition: to provide the means for someone
to do something.

Examples:

Definition: to make a request “ask for” can be
used in the same manner as “order”.

Examples:

• I asked for a double-double3, not an


americano.
• I asked for a salary increase these years
but my boss said that it was not possible.

Definition: to invite someone to socialize
romantically.

Examples:

• He was too shy to ask the girl he liked out,


so she invited him on a date instead.
• It’s unbelievable that Nancy asked Gaven
out because boys are supposed to take girls
on dates instead.

Definition: to invite someone to visit you at
your home; Synonym: “ask round”.
Examples:

• Many children – and even some adults –


ask friends over to play video games at

Definition: lit. To move backwards from a
person or an object.

Examples:
