 1. Manifestações Sonoras

Para as diversas espécies animais, as manifestações sonoras são

exatamente tão características como aspectos morfológicos. Para o

desenvolvimento de equipamentos capazes de gerar sons que possam

afugentá-las, é preciso um amplo conhecimento da acuidade sonora das aves

o qual será descrito a seguir.

O som produzido por uma ave a localiza suficientemente bem, na densa

vegetação, no vôo, à hora do crepúsculo ou à noite. As vezes, o levantamento

de aves em um ambiente de visibilidade limitada é realizado pelo ouvido.

Muitas vezes é possível identificar facilmente pela vocalização representantes

de espécies extremamente semelhantes umas às outras, como espécies

gêmeas que são difíceis de distinguir pelo aspecto da plumagem.

Manifestações sonoras podem servir para confirmar a exatidão da classificação

feita por outros métodos, sobretudo pela morfologia. A classificação pelo som

já inicia desde o estudo do pedinchar característico dos filhotes, diferentes em

espécies aparentadas.

A pesquisa das “vozes” tem extraordinária vantagem de possibilitar um

experimento real com a ave viva: reproduzindo-se uma gravação em fita

magnética na frente de um pássaro pode-se verificar se este reconhece ou não

o som em questão como sendo de sua espécie.

 Pode se provar desta maneira que a respectiva voz gravada sobre ouras

condições em outros locais pertence à mesma espécie. As aves pouco ou

nenhum interesse têm pelas vozes de outras espécies; elas são

psicologicamente isoladas. Apenas gritos de alarme ou de desespero, são

inteligíveis em um âmbito maior.

2. A produção da voz pelas aves

A ave produz sua voz na siringe, localizada na extremidade inferior da

traquéia, na bifurcação dos brônquios. Nisso difere dos humanos e dos

mamíferos em geral, cuja voz vem das cordas vocais e da pregas vocais

localizadas na laringe, situada na extremidade superior da traquéia. O

fortalecimento da voz é, em muitos casos, conseguido por meio de

transformação da traquéia, Por exemplo, pelo alongamento da mesma, é raro a

siringe não existir, como nos Urubus, que apesar disso produzem sons.

A capacidade da siringe se reflete na amplitude auditiva da ave, que

corresponde aproximadamente a do ouvido humano: a resolução acústica da

ave deve, porém, ser maior do que a nossa. Cada espécie reage melhor às

freqüências das quais se compõe sua própria voz. Calcula-se que o som

emitido pelas aves abrange até oito oitavas. Estima-se que o mais grave que

uma ave pode perceber situa-se aproximadamente em 40Hz sendo que nos

humanos é cerca de 16Hz.

 As aves atingem o limite superior de audição em 10.000 a 20.000 Hz, no

que são semelhantes aos humanos. Consta que certas aves ouvem 30.000 Hz

quando a vibração alta ocorre suficientemente forte.

Surpreende que o som agudo emitido por pássaros pequenos

freqüentemente não sejam acompanhados por ultra-sons e, ultra-sons em aves

parecem estar sempre acompanhados por componentes sônicos. Os ultra-sons

parecem ser de importância limitada para as aves, seu alcance é muito restrito.

É descrito que aves como os pombos são capazes de perceber infra-sons, de

0,06Hz, produzidos a milhares de quilômetros de distância, como a rebentação

da ondas do mar, o que poderia ajudar na orientação durante migrações.

Os avisos de advertência de alguns passeriformes não aparentados,

assustados com uma ave de rapina que passa voando, podem ser muito

semelhantes: emitem um assobio fino, que soa como “siiiit”. Esta vocalização

foi estudada mais profundamente na Europa. Esse assobiar começa baixinho,

prolonga-se por algum tempo e termina baixinho, é absolutamente puro, não

tem sons sobrepostos e geralmente varia de 6.000 a 7.000 Hz.

O aviso de perigo não é só compreensível para os indivíduos da mesma

espécie daquele que o emite, como também para os de várias outras espécies

que com eles convivem.

 3. Utilização do som como métodos de afugentamento de aves

A utilização de aparelhos capazes de emitir sons como instrumento de

afugentamento de aves atua no segmento de métodos que assustam ou

alertam aves para que deixem ou evitem pousar no local. Junto com este

método estão os equipamentos visuais como utilização de luzes e imagens que

causam estresse nas aves.

Este tipo de procedimento não causa ferimentos nas aves sendo

portanto não letais, por isso costumam ser bem aceitos pelas entidades que

avaliam impactos ambientais. No entanto, sabe-se hoje que estes

equipamentos geralmente causam habituação por parte das aves, isso ocorre

com o tempo e pode ser rápido dependendo da espécie. Por isso a

implementação combinada de imagens com movimentos e sons costumam ter

um efeito melhor, no entanto não livres de habituação.

Os principais problemas relacionados com a utilização desse sistema

são:

• Habituação

• Possível influência em outros animais da região

• Falha em fazer com que os pássaros deixem o local

• Reclamação da vizinhança sobre o barulho causado pelos

dispositivos
 O efeito é melhor nos casos em que os pássaros acabaram de chegar

no local. A dificuldade de espantar determinadas espécies aumenta se estas já

vivem no local há algum tempo. Em um estudo feito por Heinrich e Craven

(1990), não detectou habituação dos pássaros ao dispositivo de som em um

período de sete semanas. No entanto o quando mais urbanizada for a ave,

maior é a capacidade de se acostumar a uma variedade enorme de sons

associados aos humanos, sendo assim, facilmente se tornam habituadas aos

dispositivos sonoros.

Para reduzir a capacidade de habituação, os sons devem ter a maior

variedade possível ambos em local e conteúdo do sinal. O uso de técnicas

associadas conforme o já mencionado, geralmente funciona melhor do que

qualquer outro sistema isolado. Martin (1999) sugere que seja utilizado sons e

imagens em combinação para afugentar aves.

Um dos métodos que tem revelado bons resultados é utilizar sons que

estressam as aves “distress calls”. Estes sons gravados assustam as aves

fazendo com que ela deixe o local de pouso. Estes sistemas tendem a ser

específicos para determinadas aves, sendo que somente a ave em questão

seria afugentada. Além disso pode-se utilizar sons em volumes mais baixos do

que os dispositivos destinados a assustá-las.

 As gravações podem ser tanto naturais como sintéticas. Os sons

naturais são aqueles produzidos pela ave, com esse sistema elas podem não

se habituar tão rápido ao dispositivo. Os resultados obtidos ainda são

discutíveis. Aguilera et. al., 1991, cita que esses dispositivos não funcionam

bem em aves urbanizadas. Mott e Timbrook (1998), citam que os alarmes

tiveram efeitos por três a quatro semanas, mas os pássaros moviam para áreas

muito próximas e logo voltavam quando o som terminava.

Os dispositivos ultrasonicos não tiveram qualquer resultado em vários

estudos realizados. Os experimentos realizados com ultra-som tiveram maus

resultados. A utilização de aparelhos de ultra-som para afugentar aves não tem

fundamentação biológica aparentemente, porque a maioria dos pássaros não

escuta freqüências maiores do que as que nós escutamos. Mesmo que os

pássaros escutassem ultra-som, eles se tornariam habituáveis rapidamente

devido à atenuação do som causada pelo ambiente, isso tornaria o dispositivo

ineficaz para um controle a longo período.

Woronecki, P.P, realizou um estudo com equipamentos mistos (sonoros

e visuais) para afugentar pombos. O estudo conduzido com esta espécie

confere resultados significativos devido a urbanização e capacidade de

adaptação dos mesmos, certamente resultados positivos podem ser

extrapolados para outras espécies animais. Neste estudo foram utilizados o

aparelho de ultra-som UET-360, o aparelho de som Deva-megastress II e a

imagem Deva-Spinning eyes.

 O aparelho de ultra-som emitia 79 pulsos por minuto com alcance de

três metros. Foi avaliado sua eficácia em afugentar pombos de uma casa

abandonada. Durante o início da sua utilização foi verificada a presença de 64

aves na casa.

Em resumo, o aparelho quando ligado nos primeiros dias causava o

afastamento de no máximo 15 pombos do ambiente estudado, os quais logo

retornavam. No último dia de avaliação existiam 75 pombos e com presença

de ninhos indicando que o aparelho não tinha qualquer efeito sobre eles.

A imagem, conhecida com Deva-Spinning Eye foi instalada na mesma

casa. Antes da instalação foram contados em torno de 54 pombos. A imagem

foi instalada e todas as aves deixaram o ambiente e aos poucos foram

retornando mesmo com a imagem no local. O aparelho de som Deva-

Megastress II foi o que teve os melhores resultados, melhornado ainda mais

quando utilizado em conjunto com o Deva-Spinning eyes.

Não existiu uma óbvia redução no numero de pombos residindo na casa

depois dos 60 dias de estudo. Mesmo com a inabilidade dos três dispositivos

em reduzir o numero de pombos, ficou óbvio que o Deva-Spinning Eyes e o

Deva-Megastress II causaram pelo menos uma redução inicial e mudança no

comportamento das aves. A imagem reduziu o numero de pombos por um dia

enquanto o aparelho de som por uma semana, além de alterar o

comportamento dos mesmos por aproximadamente 10 dias.

 O aparelho de ultra-som não reduziu o número de pombos nem no

primeiro dia nem nos demais, além disso, foram encontrados ninhos com ovos

no período de sua utilização.

 4. Conclusões

Os métodos envolvendo sons têm se revelado útil e com bons resultados

no afugentamento de aves, no entanto muitas aves têm demonstrado

capacidade de se habituar ao aparelho e o som gerado em um período médio

de sete dias. Para reduzir a capacidade de habituação, os sons devem ter a

maior variedade possível ambos em local e conteúdo do sinal. O uso de

técnicas associadas conforme o já mencionado geralmente funciona melhor do

que qualquer outro sistema isolado. Nós aconselhamos a utilização combinada

de imagem e som, ou luz e som, mas uma atenção muito grande deve ser dada

a mudança do tipo de som , volume e localização de ambos os dispositivos

para prevenir a habituação da ave.

 5. Anexos

Em anexo imagens explicativas dos dispositivos encontrados no mercado

criados com base nos estudos do mecanismo de produção e audição dos sons

de aves. Estes dispositivos são geralmente utilizados em conjunto, nunca se

optando pelo uso isolado. A união das técnicas de visão e audição melhoram

significativamente o resultado final.

GooseBuster repels canadian geese, mallards, coots, gulls,
heron, egrets, cormorants, and all other ducks and geese.
What's so special about GooseBuster?
Actual alert and alarm calls recorded in the wild. GooseBuster
is the first and only repeller to use actual alert and alarm calls
of Canada geese, recorded under natural conditions. Geese
recognize these calls and respond instinctively( to 'alert' calls
indicating uneasiness about potential danger and 'alarm' calls
signifying immediate danger). Reacting to either, they

The handheld, water-resistant keypad is easy to use. You just slide the desired digital card
into the keypad and push play. Each card contains four sounds and you can play two

can purchase other memory cards for up to 72 additional sounds.
