história. Para tal, o aluno faz uso de dois recursos semióticos: a mími-
ca e o português. As palavras introduzidas por Antônio foram quase
todas utilizadas para recontar a história dos Três Porquinhos, o que
parece indicar que a introdução das palavras pode ter servido como
andaime na compreensão da história. Também nessa cena, temos um
exemplo de contribuição individual na construção do conceito da pala-
vra brick, quando o aluno Marcio Vicente, que adora música e rock, faz
a associação da palavra brick com a música do grupo Pink Floyd
“Another brick on the wall”.

5. Considerações finais
Neste estudo busquei verificar como a aprendizagem lexical ocor-
re na interação dentro de uma sala de aula de inglês e confirmar se a
queixa dos professores em relação ao ensino de vocabulário corresponde
à realidade observada na sala de aula. Ao analisar a interação, verifi-
quei que as atividades de vocabulário conduzidas em sala normalmente
induziam alunos e professora a interagir dentro de um enquadre
institucional. Porém, o enquadre institucional muitas vezes foi quebra-
do por práticas conversacionais que geraram outro enquadre: o enqua-
dre conversacional ou informal. A principal implicação dessa dinâmica
interacional foi trazer para o contexto de sala de aula duas práticas pe-
dagógicas de desenvolvimento cognitivo: a conversa instrucional e a
contribuição individual. Segundo pesquisas (DONATO, 2001; GÓES,
1997), tanto a conversa instrucional quanto a contribuição individual
têm papel fundamental no ensino-aprendizagem de língua, pois, ao imi-

Resumo
Nesta pesquisa, investigo o processo de aprendizagem lexical em língua es-
trangeira no contexto de uma sala de aula. Meu objetivo é entender como a
interação influencia a construção de conhecimento lexical dos alunos. Para tal
investigação, conduzi trabalho de campo em duas turmas de inglês básico cons-
tituídas de alunos entre 12 e 13 anos. Gravei e transcrevi em audio e vídeo
aulas durante dois meses. A análise das interações indicou que alunos e profes-
sores recorrem com freqüência a práticas conversacionais como a conversa
instrucional, o andaimento e a contribuição individual para a construção de
significado.

Abstract
This research investigates the process of learning vocabulary in a second
language in a classroom environment. Its objective is to understand how the
classroom interaction affects the construction of lexical knowledge. To achieve
this, two classes of basic English formed by 12 and 13 year-old students have
