A Bolsa Brasileira de Mercadorias, cujas atividades foram iniciadas

em 22 de outubro de 2002, assinalou avanços significativos em
2003. No mês de maio, realizou os primeiros negócios com CPRs
no mercado secundário. Essa conquista somente foi possível por
causa da utilização do Sistema de Registro de Custódia de Títulos
do Agronegócio (SRCA) da BM&F, que possibilitou o registro das
CPRs em nome do banco custodiante, da Corretora e do
proprietário dos títulos e, com isso, viabilizou a negociação e o
endosso eletrônico desses papéis, estimulando a participação de
investidores no agronegócio.

Brazilian Commodities Exchange

Inaugurated on October 22, 2002, the Brazilian Commodities
Exchange (BBM) spearheaded significant advances in 2003. In
May, the first CPR transactions in the secondary market were
carried out. Such an achievement was only made possible
through the use of the BM&F System for Registration of
Agricultural Securities Custody (SRCA), which enabled CPR
registration on behalf of custodial banks, Brokerage Houses, and
securities owners. This led to the trading and electronic
endorsement of such instruments, thus encouraging the
participation of investors in the agribusiness sector.

A participação das Corretoras da Bolsa Brasileira de Mercadorias

no leilão de CPRs do Banco do Brasil – mercado primário – foi
marcante: R$522 milhões de CPRs. Já os títulos negociados no
ambiente da Bolsa Brasileira de Mercadorias – mercado secundário
– atingiram o montante de R$82 milhões, envolvendo 1.308 CPRs.

Negócios com produtos físicos

Foram negociadas 49 mil sacas de arroz em casca e beneficiado

por intermédio do convênio firmado entre a Bolsa e o Instituto
Riograndense de Arroz (IRGA), no valor aproximado de R$1,8
milhão.

Licitações públicas

As licitações públicas para aquisição de bens e serviços, realizadas

via Sistema Eletrônico Unificado de Pregão (Seup), viabilizaram
compras pelos estados do Mato Grosso e do Mato Grosso do Sul
no total de R$60 milhões.

Compras privadas

O Seup foi oferecido para as empresas privadas que realizaram as

primeiras negociações por meio das regionais dos estados de
Goiás, Minas Gerais e São Paulo.

The participation of the Brazilian Commodities Exchange member

Brokerage Houses in Banco do Brasil’s CPR auction—primary
market—was remarkable with R$522 million worth of CPRs
traded. The securities traded on the Brazilian Commodities
Exchange floor—secondary market—reached the amount of R$82
million and the trading of 1,308 CPRs.

Commodity trades

Forty-nine thousand bags of husk rice were traded as the result of

the mutual agreement signed between the Brazilian Commodities
Exchange and the Rio Grande do Sul State Rice Institute (IRGA)
totaling R$1.8 million. 92 93

Bidding system

The bidding system that supports public tenders for the acquisition
of assets and services, carried out via the Centralized Electronic
Auction System (SEUP), led to purchases in the amount of R$60
million by the central west states of Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso
do Sul.

Private purchases

SEUP was offered to private companies, which carried out their first
transactions using this system through the regional exchanges
based in the states of Goiás, Minas Gerais and São Paulo.
