CONHECENDO MAIS
As duas espécies mais comuns de tuia são a T. occidentalis e a T. plicata. Existe também a T. orientalis. Todas as 3
espécies possuem tuiona no óleo e aroma de maçã portanto. O óleo obtido da madeira da Thuja plicata no Canadá é
chamado de cedro vermelho, sendo o único óleo de madeira conhecido com um éster sedativo (tuiato de metila). O
óleo oriundo da madeira das tuias não possui tuiona, tendo portanto propriedades diferentes. O óleo da madeira da T.
orientalis não possui éster, tendo aroma mais seco. No Canadá as tuias são erroneamente chamadas de cedros.
